I just tried to install the factory single disk in my 1994 SHO. I don't have the JBL system and there was no cd player originally, just the tape deck. I acquired a cable off of eBay to hook the cd player to the casstte. When I tried to make it work I could not get power to the CD. There is a connector on the wiring harness that plugs into the CD player that looks like it will deliver power. I cannot find anything to plug it into under the dash. Is there a special harness or do I need to splice into the power to the head unit? Any ideas?

Thanks,

JS

Cars that did not come with a factory installed CD player don't have the power connector. There is an "add on" power harness but it is more rare than the audio cable. You could get one from a factory equipped car but you will have to wire it in yourself.

I did some digging and I found on the forum some people talking about a power connector on the left hand side plugged into a dummy connector. I looked around and found it. It has 8 wires and a wide connector. The recepticle on the wiring harness has a 5 plug end. Is this the right one? Is there a harness for it?

I couldn't be 100% positive the cable was in a dummy plug. It appeared to be attached to a metal plate and went no where I could see. I did not get any idiot lights on the dash and everything seems to still work without it plugged in.

Nope, that's the connector for the speakers for the low end radios. You will have to add the connector.

Hey guy,

I know exactly what you're going through, I did the same thing to my '95 about three months ago. What I ended up doing, since I didn't have the cables, was I made my own "jumper" cable to connect the CD and Cassette player and spliced into the wiring harness for the Cass/AM/FM to provide power/lights/etc. to the CD player. The tricky part about this is that you need a wiring diagram that shows you the correct wiring pattern for the CD player. I don't have the tools necessary to take it apart (nor the tools) to find out, but I'm sure someone else knows the correct wiring pattern. Good luck dude...it's worth it!
