Does anyone in the metro detroit area have the means to tow a SHO from NY? My friend is planning on purchasing a car and we're not quite sure how to transport it. It would be quite a haul, but expenses would be covered and you would be kindly compensated for your help.

I was thinking of going out there with him and driving the car back, but I'm not 100% on the legal issues involved with driving from state to state on a newly purchased vehicle.

Battlestar Galactica is the best SciFi series. I'm willing to discuss dissenting opinions.

Last summer I purchased an SHO off Ebay and drove it from Columbus Ohio to Virginia. (I took the bus to Columbus.) I went to the Virginia DMV and got a transit tag. It's not really a tag, it's just a piece of paper you and the seller sign and stick to the back window. You have to have the VIN #, proof that the vehicle with that # is insured for liability, $5, and know when you are going to be driving the purchased vehicle back. The tag is good for 3 days starting on the day you pick, and good only for travel on a direct route to the destination in VA you designate. So at least in VA, there's no big legal problem with your original plan.

Michigan law states that if you buy a car, you can drive it home, in the most direct route possible. But make sure you have insurance on it first. Done it plenty of times, just have the bill of sale, title and some new proof of insurance and you should be ok.

I agree with Denny.

Having purchased three from out-of-state, where I flew-in to drive the vehicles back (from MA, NJ, PA), I simply took proof of insurance, a bill of sale, copies of the eBay auction, and plates from one of my other Taurus's. In each case I drove 800-to-1100 miles bringing the cars back, no problem.

problem solved, a different (and better in all ways except cosmetically) SHO purchased locally.

If you dropped the sale on the SHO in NY, what was the location and condition?

it was in brooklyn, and from what I saw it was in good condition. I would still buy it, but he took a little bit too long, lost the title, and getting a SHO here was just much more convenient for me.

Ah, that's Mr95GL's SHO, me thinks. That car is uber clean, and if it weren't an ATX, I would consider getting it myself.
