Okay here it goes. I removed the "football" the other day using a "DIN" tool, no problems, unplugged three electrical connectors and the air tube and completely removed it. I wanted to adjust the tape head but when I realized that I could not exactly get to it, I decided to put everything back. So I have everything plugged up and put back into place and now guess what!?! NOTHING that's what. I mean now nothing will play, I have no clock, and no control over the climate system which is somehow on defrost now for some reason, I suppose a default setting of sorts. Is there some code that has to be put back in for everything to work as normal again?
This is one time that I wish I had just left this thing alone.

I have checked all the fuses and I have none that are blown so rule that out. Anyone ever experience this before?  :bonk: :frown:

It is a government regulation that the climate control system in all vehicles must go to defrost by default if something goes wrong. Do you have power at all to the unit?

All the connectors are in place, but it acts as if there is no power. I checked the fuses and none were blown. I have no display at all. No clock, and the antenna is also not functioning.

make sure you pluged the antenna wire back into the radio, it sometimes acts as a ground.

Check the amp in the trunk, that is where the antenna cable is. Other than that see if you can find power coming form the harness or try to find a radio that you know works and plug it in.

Do our radios require codes to be reinstalled????

I've had my football in and out several times over the last month or so for my XM install. No problems whatsoever, and definitely no codes!

Great! Now I will take it all back out and check the connections again. At least now I know there is not a code issue. :thumb:

Has anyone actually had this thing apart?
I have had mine apart again and all I can find that puzzles me is this wide flat cable (much like that found in a computer). The color is white and it looks like it fits down beside the cassette framework. I cannot tell if it plugs into the underside of the circuit board there or not, if it does plug in there, then that probably solves my problem of the loss of power, anyone have any idea about what I am talking about and if so how to plug this cable back up under that circuit board.
Once this thing is all back together and working, I will never mess with it again. I am wondering if I should take it to Ford or Radio Shack or a car stereo place and see if they can fix my F-up? :banghd:

I had mine apart to clean it 2 weeks ago. They are not that hard; just keep track of the screws. The white cable does unplug so that might be your problem. Just take off the back cover and make sure everything is hooked up. If you take it to a ford dealer they will try to sell you a new one, like $400 new.

Thanks Snow, how do you plug that white cable back up, there isn't a lot of room here and it is very short. Do you have to remove the circuit board that it plugs into in order to attach the cable? I know the fittings are torx and they are smaller than a T10, that is the smallest I have.

:thumb: I went to "Radio Shack" and bought a very nice small tool kit which included the Torx sizes I needed and now I have my stereo, clock, and climate controls back. I didn't realize that I was taking this thing apart backwards and that was why I didn't see where to plug up the flat cable, because I didn't actually unplug it, it must have came unplugged when I seperated the front of the unit from the rear. Anyway, now I see how easy it is to take this unit apart when you remove the #8 Torx headed screw from that heat sink, didn't do that before and there inlies the confusion that lead to my problem.

Tool Kit at Radio Shack = $14.99
New hair style from pulling my hair out = $0.00
Learning that I don't need to drink anymore Bud Light when tinkering with things I know absolutely nothing about = Priceless! :bonk:
