i seem to be having a problem with my 92 mtx. when it is cold if i give it anymore then light throttle it stalls. even if i snap the throttle a little to get moving it stalls. once the temp gauge moves it runs great. 134k on it. didnt see any oil in the plug wells when i checked. just repaired a vacuum leak on the rear of the intake. unknown sevice history. any ideas?

heater cores leaking and so is the power steering could that have anything to do with it?

:stupid: cars are like people, when they are freezing cold, they don't wanna move either, not good to be hittin the throttle hard when the engine is cold, good way to cause excessive wear. But anyway, sounds like maybe it could be the ECT sensor, it might not be giving the right temperature reading to the computer. But thats just a guess, did the computer throw any codes? Also jsut because the CE light isnt on, doesnt mean there arnt any codes:cool:

its the exactct symptoms that IAB is (or IAC whatever you wanna call it) also clean the MAF and tb then check the tb voltage for dead spots or extreme changes.. my guess is your problem lies there somewhere.

but yeah as 1993mtxsho said running the **** outta a cold car isnt good it is extreme wear because the oil hasent warmed up enough to properly coat parts not to mention metal gets weak when its cold and can fractor easier, more so aluminum..

prime example is try to tq your valve cover bolts when its like 10 degrees . i found that out the hard way :( guess it pays to think i stripped 3 bolts thats night before i flipped out and stopped

yeah and our engine have rod bearing problems already, cold revving certainly wont help that.

im not talking about running it that hard im talking about maybe more then 10 percent throttle. i cant even give it enough throttle to get moving from a stop sign until the temp gauge moves

Again, just throwing it out there for consideration,

Let the car warm up before driving???

I am not talking about idling it until fully up to temperature, but 5 to 10 minutes (depending on the ambient temperature of course) would not be uncalled for.

I do agree that there may be something more going on there, but any driving when cold is extremely ******* vehicles. Not only that, but if you are driving around while keeping revs under 2000 rpm, you are going to be lugging the engine, while oil flow is low, and are in extreme danger of destroying your rod bearings - at best.

I strongly suggest you stop driving the car while it is cold until this is resolved, or you will be putting new bearings in, if not a new engine...

I have the same problem when it gets really cold. I just let the car warm up for 15 minutes before I go to work.
