My car was running fine and then all of a sudden it just quit.

I pulled over and read my codes. Here is what they are

111
172
176
181
189
211
542

Most of the codes are lambda sensor. What is that?
Any help would be appreciated.

When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump prime. It turns over and the tach works. Just no go.

111 = all okay at that moment
172 = lean on rear bank
176 = lean on left bank
181 = adaptive limit reached on mixture adjustment rear bank
189 = adaptive limit reached on mixture adjustment front bank
211 = pip circuit failure
542 = fuel pump secondary circuit failure

the car died because of 211 - the crank sensor is bad or the wiring to it is bad.

the lean codes are either from bad oxy sensors or because you have a serious vacuum leak. either way, once you get it running again you will want to fix that, because your fuel mileage will go up noticably.

the 542 can be ignored - it gets set when the car stalls.

I got the car home on its own power. I am going to clear the codes and read them again.

I need to get my 3.2 swapped now more than ever.

I disconnected the battery and read the codes.
Got a 512 KAM Fault

Took it for a rip and read the codes and got 111.
The 3.0 is needs to be put out of its misery.

Thanks for the insight. The previous owner did a 60K but I think he failed to replace the crank sensor.

I drove in to work today and all was well until I stopped at a light. The car just died without warning.

I read the codes and got 111 no other codes.

Then I tried to start it and it fired up and got me to work.

What gives? How can there be no codes?

there's no codes because you just cleared them..

and pulling the paper clip while its blinking codes is a better way to reset them than pulling the battery.

I am not sure why there would be no codes after it died again.

It happened again on the way home that resulted in a tow home.

I got 211 again. I have a spare so hopefully that solves the issue until I can swap in my 3.2

If your spare crank sensor is used, forget it. I've tried that and it lasted me about 3,000 miles. The crank sensor won't always set a code, so that's why there weren't codes right away when you cleared it.

This^^. My old 93 started to randomly stall out and at times it would start sputtering while driving. I thought it was the fuel pump going out. It didn't sho any codes codes till the CPS finally died. That's when I got the 211.

as the crank sensor is failing, it will often work while its cold and then fail when its hot. sometimes it will allow you to restart it right away. sometimes you have to wait 30-60 minutes. eventually it will not work at all.

it is silly to try to keep driving when you know at some random point it will die. if that happens in the wrong place it could cause an accident and someone could be hurt.
