I'm on lunch right now from work where I've been driving around in my Kia all day. Since I've both my cars up in EL now for the week, I've had a chance to get reaquainted with the SHO and compare the pros and cons of both vehicles. The shifting in the SHO seems really tough compared to the Kia and the brakes feel less responsive than the little Rio's. Steering isn't bad(the PS fluid has been "flushed" not by choice :bonk: ) but I'm wondering how the brake fluid(partly new) and trans fluid would be after two years of sitting. Will I see a benefit by changing out fluids, or is this a sign of something problematic?

I think you are just used to the brakes and shifting of a new car. This happens to me alot when I drive a rental car for work over a week or so then get back into my car. All the sudden I'm comparing 2004 Nissan to my 1990 SHO and my car feels odd, nah downright cheap.

Brake fluid in the sealed system should be ok for 2 years as it is sealed from the environment. Water would be your greatest enemy as brake fluid is hydroscopic (absorbs moisture over time). If you are in doubt, a detailed bleeding of the system with synthetic wouldnt be a bad idea.

Well I'll take your word on the old vs new car feeling. I think I may be done with the brakes for a while, so maybe a good bleed with some DOT-4 synthetic LMA fluid will be on the horizon :D
If only I had the confidence to tap a hole for a drain plug

I would change the fluids if I were you. The oil and brake fluid are both hydrostatic and absorb moisture (h2o) over time. Ford brake fluid, while a very good fluid, is notorious for this and it's recommended to change it frequently.

hey

:ruhroh:eek:ne thing to remember when changing brake fluid, if you don't get ALL of the fluid out, I mean ALL it will wreck your brake system!!!! That synthetic does NOT mix with the non synthetic, just take it in and get it flushed, I did mine in Feb for 45.00 from midas, most shops can do it, just call around, even ask em when you call em and they will tell you the same thing
