Hey guys, my 91 SHO broke down a few weeks ago, I was goin down the rode, was with my SHO buddy, and was at 2k rpm in first, well I put the clutch in, meant to rev to 4k and slip, but instead revved to 6k and pretty much dropped it, and then I heard a loud CLUNK, all i could do was coast to a stop, there was some smoke comin out from underneath, and then that was it.

I can put the car into gear, but its like its slipping and wont move at all, in any gear, plus if i put it in gear and let the clutch out completely and it won't stall, it will just idle, i don't get it. Plus if i have it in gear and rev it up, then the spedometer moves with it matching what it would be like if i was actually moving.

So, could it be the clutch, input shaft, axles, o yea the motor mounts are almost completly shot, I haven't gotten to pull the tranny yet, but I just wanted to hear your alls best guesses as to what might have happened. Thanks headbang

I'm not a tranny expert but to me it sounds like you broke the differential. Sorry dude.

does it still make a loud noise? it could have been (i have no idea how) a half shaft, if one was broke or came out, you would be stuck and the speedo would still work. just another idea to check out. i know how ya feel, i came to a stop in my sho, then when it was my turn to go, the car just reved, i'm like WTF? then eek! eek! i new i lost first gear. damn atx's. hehe

Sounds like what happened to me. If you can put it into gear but can't move an inch I would bet that you shattered the clutch. The smoke coming out was probably the clutch disc burning before it shattered. I had the same clunk preceeded by lots of clutch smoke. I removed the clutch disc in about a hundred pieces.

Check under the car. If you see a big hole in the tranny, and fluid has come out of it (probably all gone now), you fired the differential pin out of it. It's good that you mentioned the speedometer moving, as this shows that the internals of the tranny are spinning (if I'm correct). Must be something after that, like the diff or a halfshaft as ohioshodude suggested.
