Hey guys, my 91 SHO broke down a few weeks ago, I was goin down the rode, was with my SHO buddy, and was at 2k rpm in first, well I put the clutch in, meant to rev to 4k and slip, but instead revved to 6k and pretty much dropped it, and then I heard a loud CLUNK, all i could do was coast to a stop, there was some smoke comin out from underneath, and then that was it.

I can put the car into gear, but its like its slipping and wont move at all, in any gear, plus if i put it in gear and let the clutch out completely and it won't stall, it will just idle, i don't get it. Plus if i have it in gear and rev it up, then the spedometer moves with it matching what it would be like if i was actually moving.

So, could it be the clutch, input shaft, axles, o yea the motor mounts are almost completly shot, I haven't gotten to pull the tranny yet, but I just wanted to hear your alls best guesses as to what might have happened. Thanks

Have you replaced a half shaft lately? When I did mine, I didn't get the new one all the way in and it popped out on the way to work. I didn't have the loud clunk, however. When the shaft is not all seated, you will **** tranny fluid. This could explain the smoke.

You better hope like **** this is your problem.

BTW, why would one rev to 4 grand in neutral on a 1-2 upshift? Are you just curious about how weak the diff is in this car?

Sorry to tell you but you blew your Diff. I did the same things last summer  . If your bellhousing isn't cracked then i would start saving for a Quaife LSD and a new clutch kit to go along with it. DON'T DO CLUTCH DROPS WITH A STOCK DIFF. doh

Woooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooo! Sorry, found out it wasn't the diff, 700 dollars of repairs, but it wasn't the diff, front axle/halfshafts were snapped, motor mounts were practically gone, and other minor little things, this is so awesome, I should have the SHO back very soon. Thank goodness it wasn't the diff though.

Witch City, baby! Salem,
You're lucky the half shafts gave out instead of the diff...they're probably original. Next time you probably wouldn't be so fortunate. Your shot motor mounts probably helped your cause by flexing... thumb

Let this be a lesson...don't drop the clutch unless you have a quaife or you're running from the cops... wink

Avoid SHOBOOM at all costs...

Just for the record, your SHO didn't break down, you broke it. Might want to think about that next time you want to impress a friend. Chalk this one up to "Lesson Learned at a Price."
