I have a new battery and a rebuilt alt in my 95. The car is not driven everyday, and hasn't been started since this past sunday. I went out this morning to start the car, it almost started but quickly I got that annoying "sound" meaning the battery was dead. Every time I start the car after it sits for 2 days or more it needs to be jumped. Any ideas as what could be going on?

These problems are a REAL pain! I had the same prob w/ my 94 atx. Turned out the battery was defective or something. The guy told me it'd been sitting on the rack for nearly 2 years!(Wal-Mart) I'd only had the battery though for about 8 months. Because of this I got screwed outta 50 bucks, b/c they went by the date on the battery itself, rather than the date I purchased it. This is probably your problem. Check the battery sticker to see if it had been sitting for along time.

If that's not it I would then check the starter, and the power cables that run to it. They may have ALOT of oil on them or just be old, and your just not getting enough 'kick' their! I really doubt it's your ALT though, they usually do good rebuilds on those; (most places anyways + once the cars running you can test it by disconecting the battery cables...NEG 1st then the POS 2nd; otherwise you might fry something important!)

Hope this helps!

Also make sure the battery is big enough. If it does not have enough CCA (cold cranking amps) that would cause a very similiar problem.

i went thru 3 alts and 2 batteries...before realizing that all i had to do was wiggle and clean off the starter wires, b/c they were shorting out the system and not letting it charge, now it works like a charm...so now i have 3 alts and 2 more batteries its called stock pilling...good luck

You need to search on the forum. This problem is not hard to track down if you own a voltmeter that has an current meter built in. The basics are put current meter inline with battery to see how much current is being drawn. Start pulling fuses until the current drops. Look up what that fuse controls and start investigating. There are more cautions and precautions that I want to write now so do that search.

EDIT:
OK, maybe not the same problem! Do as NJSHO suggested. You need to find where the draw is coming from.

I had a similar problem many years ago with an '89 SHO. I assume the charging system and wiring is pretty much the same for a '95....

There was a fusible link hidden in the wiring harness near the battery and alternator. It was blown, and not allowing the car to charge itself.
I cut the fusible link out and spliced an inline fuse in its place. It was a pretty big fuse, maybe 30amps or so?

Sorry that I can't tell you more. It's been too long!

Before starting car test battery voltage. Is voltage above 12.2V? If so battery is good

Start car, run engine at 1500 rpms. Is battery voltage above 13.5 with the headlights, radiator fan (turn on AC) and heater fan (on high)? If so the the alternator is good.
