I was driving at 65MPH, and suddenly the feel something going on and watch the battery light ON, I had my alternator died last eve of Xmas with the same battery light on. So I immediately pulled out of the road. Luckily, I was driving on the right lane. The car totally stopped with less than 200 feet!

I turned off and turned on the key again. Well it started and I drove about 6-7 miles back home with no problem.

The gas just below the red light, which normally I can drive another 30-40 miles.

The fuel system made a noisy reaction and tried several time to get it idle stable with first several idle died soon after start. This happened about 2 weeks about and only once.

Recently, sometime when turn the key before start the car, the pump area made louder and strange noise, and the idle seem less stable than before.

Tonight, when I first start the car, the ABS malfunction light (It is no function and that way for years) flashed rather than normal stable, that lasted about 10-15 second and stabilized.

Since I can restart and drive the car, I assume the one-year-old alternator and 2-year-old battery still in good shape.

I will check the code later to see any clue. Pump problem? Anyone has this nightmare car died when DRIVING!!???

Start by reading the codes as you mentioned. Just because the alt and battery are relatively 'recent' doesn't mean you should assume they are operating properly. Could also be something as simple as a loose battery cable or ground somewhere.

No code for engine running test. Code for KOEO is:
157 MAF sensor circuit below min volt
332 insuffient EGR flow deteced
648 incorrect gear ratio obtained for 4th gear(transmission has problem?)

Thanks for your thought.

here are some tips from my snap on scanner.with having the 157 and the 332 egr code, "if 157 and 332 are present service the egr problem first.after fixing 332 chk maf voltage at idle while in drive with brake on. out of drive might read higher. if voltage continuoslly drops below .5v with engine running gently tap, wiggle or bend wiring to sensor, looking for change in maf voltage, maf if the drop comes from moving the harness repair pins or wire damages. signal wire is pin D,return signal is pin C.if this cks out fine rerun test and make sure to do a proper goose throttle test"

648 is trans falure code has trans shop check I cant help out on trans codes

code 332 is possably stuck egr valve or solenoid is inop.or lack of vaccum. ck for 2"hg of vac when evr is active, also ck for vac at evr lower port,if vac good ck for egr functioning, should notice rpm drop when valve is opened,if no drop clean egr passages in manifold .

If it was electrical, I think you would have a lot more trouble getting it started.

Check your IAB/IAC. More likely the IAC solenoid.

The reason why I think this is because new Nissan Altimas and Maximas have been stalling out on highways at 60 MPH or so eek! . The VQ35DE engine (3.5L V6 shared in Altima, Maxima, and 350Z) uses Yamaha's IAC solenoid (just like our SHO engines). These were found to be faulty on a lot of the new cars. Yamaha, in fact, has always had trouble with these, which is why (I presume) so many of us have IAB/IAC problems. headbang

Plus, you said your idle was weird. Shouts: IAB/IAC. Codes may not be thrown at all for these parts because, well, it's an SHO! doh

Drove with caution today for about total 70-80 miles with no problem. Wonder why it died Friday and back to normal after that? Too little gas in the tank? no good gas inside? Normally, I took gas from my neighbour Shell, and recently just two times from roadside gas stations because of running out of gas when driving.

Also, what exactly code 648 means? Anything to do with what happened last Friday?
