I'm guessing you have a 92, which means you have the rod shifter. It could be possible that the one of the rods disconnected from the tranny. Maybe I am wrong, I have the cable shifter and had the crossover cable replaced because it popped off of where it was connected to close to the tranny. My shifter did the exact same thing. I could spin it all over in figure eights, everywhere. Now that it is fixed it is all good. If I were you I would cheak under there again and take a really close look. I would think that with these symptoms that it is not your tranny. But again, I could be wrong. Good luck and keep us posted. :thumb:

Take a look under the car. There will be 2 rods, one connects to the tranny boss which is part of the tranny case. It has a fairly large bolt in there. Typically people who slam through the gears are the ones who have troubles with this boss breaking.

The other rod connects to the shift shaft with a tie fighter looking bolt setup. Forgive me for not using the proper term for it but if you've ever watched Star Wars you know what it looks like. :) Just reconnect that if it came loose and you should be all set.

I would imagine that you should be able to take off the box that covers the rod to shifter connection  I wish I could help you more with this but I have the cable shifter. Just dig around and see what you can do. Good luck. :thumb:

remove the center console and remove the shifter as a complete unit thru the bottom.
