I don't know if this normal but I can't seem to make a decent u-turn no matter how wide I take it. Most of the time it's a 2 step procedure. Go forward, turn, stop at sidewalk, reverse quickly, try to avoid oncoming traffic, accelerate like a bat out if **** :D My dad's Grand Caravan has a better turning radius. What's up with that?

What size tires do you have? You should have a Gen 3, then you could complain.

The wider tires mounted on the SHO caused Ford to lessen the motion of the steering rack to prevent tire contact on stationary components. Not much you can do to change that. Just plan on using a wider area for turns.

I've always wondered if it was just my car. Don't feel so wierd about it now. Still sucks though!

I've complained about this same thing for years. You can make a 360 deg turn with a front-wheeled drive Volvo with a turbocharged engine inside a closet. They are amazing.

You could mess around with the steering stops that limit the amount of wheel turn, but I don't know if I would go there!

You just have to bite the bullet and hope the steering technology from Volvo spills over to Ford, Volvo's owner.

Or do what I do, swing right fast and hard, then dive left and swing the baby around to make more room on the left.

Just do it in an area where there is no traffic, cops, schools, etc.

Usually for me it works to goose the throttle a little bit to create some understeer, then let off and the car will get ahold of itself and go where you want it. Maybe it's just me, but I don't have many U-turn problems. Could be your streets are just narrow :D

Watch out for U-turns. In most places they are completely illegal, and should an accident result from a U-turn you will be found at fault.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your car. All Tauri that I've owned have had huge turning radii. If you want to see it, park the car with the wheels turned all the way over, get out look at it and laugh. They barely go over 45 degrees. I think my old F-150 supercab could turn a tighter circle than the Taurus. Oh well, look at the things our car does excellently though... thumbs_u

my f-150 standard cab 4x4 longbed's turning radius is just a tad larger than my SHO's :p

But the 4x4 aspect of the pickup helps the turning radius drastically boink

My Mercury mountaineer can spin circles inside the SHO's turning circle. Very very sad. We need one of those evo VIII racks in our cars!

No, you guys need an Omni GLH-T, and THEN you really can complain. The turning radius in my Omni is just plain embarrasing. My SHO, even though it's a much larger car, can make a U-turn in about 2/3's the space of my GLH. :D

Most U-Turns are Illegal??? Where do you live?
You've got no problems unless you see a "No U-Turn" sign.

Also, my u-turn radius sucks. Stock rims, 225/55/16
I assume it will only get worse with wider rims and tires.?.

I've noticed that my father's 92 SHO has a much larger turning radius than my 94. I've been told that the spindles were changed after 93 and improved the turning radius.

Just what I've been told.

I live in MN. Any U-turn is illegal. Most cops will not frown upon them when done in a driveway or off the main road. Keep in mind this is Saint Paul, also. The same probably does not apply out in the sticks.

Go ahead and check your state laws. You might be surprised.

BTW, U-turns at a light usually are OK, as long as there's a green arrow. I assume that's what you mean.
