Ok I removed the two bolts on the starter through the drivers side fender well....that was pretty easy. The I removed the bolt that goes into the back of the starter "you know the one on the bracket"

Now I can wiggle the crap out of the starter but it wont come out. I think that damn bracket is keeping it from pulling back.

I pryed the starter away enough to get that alignment pin out of it's hole but I keep fighting with it and it wont come out.

I need some advice bad.

Thanks Guys,
Adam S.

sh*t, if you got all the bolts out and still cant remove the starter then i dunno. try spraying some wd40 or something similiar in there i guess. i would say pry it right out with your ratchet (i personally know craftsman tools can double as hammer and prybars in a pinch wink ) only thing is i dunno if by prying it out you would damage where the teeth of the starter engage the gear inside the engine. it must be just corroded in there though. keep at it, maybe a heat gun too ::shrugs:: let us know what happens.

Hehehe, I've used my old 1/2" drive craftsman ratchet for a hammer many a time when I've been too lazy to fetch a real hammer. I'm STILL waiting for it to break so I can go get me a nice new shiny one! As far as penetrants, I would suggest trying PB Blaster instead of WD40. You can get it at walmart in the automotive section if you can't find it anywhere else. GREAT stuff!

I had the same problem you are describing when i had to remove my starter. There is a bolt way up on the engine that is holding the hanger bracket in place. On my car the bolt was pretty rusty and once i put a wrench on it it rounded out. So i couldnt remove that bracket. Instead i just took a long screw driver and pryed the hanger outta the way and pushed it back into place with the new starter. This method only worked for two starters. On my third starter i must have warped the hanger bracket too much and it wont line up anymore. Oh and dont try spraying wd 40 near the flywheel area. Cant be good for the flywheel or clutch.

you know, if you used a 12 point socket instead of the usual 6 point ones you could probably get that rounded bolt off real easy ;o) i know it came in handy for me when i did my thermostat, the bolts were rounded right out.
