so i had the prob where its stuck in park and no brake lights , so after search and help from you guys - i replaced that switch located on the brake pedal , then replaced the fuse , now the fuse pops as soon as its put in , im not leaking any brake fluid , and the smoke comes out from under the dash , at times smoke will come out by the master cylinder , what am i missing? i need help. the fuses under the hood are not that close to the brake cylinder , what do i need to check?

Tracing wires sucks.

Get a volt meter that will sound a tone when there is continuity. Start probing the wires associated with the blown fuse. Find out where it's shorted and fix it.

Has this car ever had a Remote Start feature?

no i dont think so , nah im pretty sure it never did. i had a guy look at it , he said the switch was not getting any power , so he then popped in a fuse and it smoked, he said it smelled like burning wires. im looking for a short , however i cant find anything. i dont even see any burned wires. i thought this was a common fix with these cars. i feel like im missing something easy?

It sits behind the air filter. Little square with a rather large plug in it.

ok , i tried this and still got a bunch of smoke - maybe i un-hooked the wrong one? does the little box have a bolt on top of it , and on the right side of the air filter? i un-hooked the square on the left side of the air box. thanks for the help.

so you say the master cylinder isnt leaking? but unplug the plug on the bottom of the master cylinder anyway and try putting a fuse in and see if it blows.u might not notice the leak because its in the plug!so jus try this then go from there.the part is the cruise control deactivation switch.this was my problem except i noticed it leaking .oh and yes there is a recall on this plug that i am refering to.and your cruise module is probably toasted like mine, thats where the smoke is coming from most likely!

you should be able to unplug the plug under the m/c and put a fuse back in,or do as superho stated and unplug the ccrm, which is more than likely what smoked.but check ur fuses!

If you put the fuse back in, it'll just blow again. Your CCRM has shorted, causing the fuse to blow...and since your brake lights are relayed through there (as a shutoff for the cruise), they won't work and you won't be able to shift outta park with the car running.

You need a new master cylinder pressure switch.....It's under the master cylinder
