Not exactly certain how the atx setup is different from the mtx but they should be similar. Is there a reason you can't get a wrench on the tensioner? You'll need to use it to tighten the belt too. Have you removed the battery to get more room? If all else fails you can remove the wheel and the plastic wheel liner to access that part of the engine.

that battery is out. one of the other pulleys is in the way, i think the power steering one, and i cant get the bolts to budge on that one. if i could get that off, i might be able to get the tensioner done, but until then, i think i'm screwed, cause i have no tools at my house.

You need a 17mm socket and a rachet. The tensioner has to have pressure applied in a clockwise direction. It's helpful to have a short pole to give you that extra leverage. I slip the belt on every pulley but the alternator and apply pressure to the tensioner and slip the belt onto the alternator pulley. At the very least, you will need a 17mm box end wrench. DON'T try to use an adjustable wrench or you risk stripping the head of the bolt. Good luck.

hey i just replaced my alternator last week and i used a 17 mm socket u have to take the battery and the battery tray out to get at the pulley the pulley is right in front of the waterpump just put the socket on the nut and push to the ground that will loosen the tension the pully is spring loaded its real easy to get the belt back on. just push down on the pulley and put the belt were u want it.
