This issue that I have with my '96 sho comes and goes. I originally thought it was an imrc problem but it turned out not to be since I still have this problem now that I wired open my secondaries and did away with the imrc. I will try my best to help you guys understand what is happening (occasionally). Sometimes it will only happen once a week and sometimes it will happen for 3 days in a row. My car gets these power surge like symtoms. Cruising along at any given speed it will just dog out and have very little power, like its bogging down (very similar to driving a carburated vehicle that is getting too much fuel), but if I stay on the throttle steady it will take off and go after a few seconds or sometimes minutes it takes, when this happens it seems like the engine itself is running perfectly fine (no misses or sputtering). The best way I can describe it is that it feels exactly like if you were driving a car or truck with a turbo and when the turbo spools up and kicks in you get that boost of power and take off, that is exactly what it feels like to me. I originally was thinking maybe also a tranny slip, but the rmps don't jump up and down like would happen if it was slipping. When this is happening, if I put the pedal down sometimes it will take off and go and other times it won't, the car will downshift correctly but still have the bogging and no power. Like I said, this happens very randomly and seems like no weather or temperature factors affect if its going to happen or not, just very random. Sorry this is so long but any and all suggestions and ideas are greatly appreciated, I have never seen this type of issue happen in any other of the vehicles I have owned in my lifetime, and also have never heard of anyone I know having any symptoms like this in any vehicles. Thanks again for anyone's input.

Sounds like bad/lazy O2 sensors. I'd change the front O2 sensors on bank 1 and bank 2.

They circled the problem on the grill of the car. ha. Seriously I had my 97 for 3 years and never did fix mine. One time I took off from a stop and I swear I was in 2nd gear, as I had to floor it to move at all. Felt like I was driving a mercedes turbo diesel.
I also had a cold air intake, and they v-8 sho is very finicky about heat in the intake. The only help I can give is when mine ran like shit my Intake air temp was 150+ degrees. I would really consider getting a stock air box and go from there. Could also be a torqu converter failing.

I would rule out a dirty MAF because I just cleaned it less than a week ago and it made no difference. I'm not really convinced that it's the O2 sensors either because I've had several mustangs with O2 sensors completely removed and they ran fairly decent, not even close to how ****** my SHO runs, of course they are different cars/engines, etc., but I would think an O2 sensor is an O2 sensor no matter what the engine or car its on.

But you will find out the SHO's esp the Gen3 are testy sometimes. I replaced both my front O2, cause it was running crappy. Also the MAF could be taking a crap too.
