Can I run Tokicos with stock springs?

Is anyone out there running tokico struts with the stock springs? I can't afford to go with the Eibachs right now so struts are it. Anyway, will I benefit from just struts. I drive a 95 MTX.

Yes. To install the springs later will double your labor costs because it is just as much effort to replace the springs (or struts) alone as it is to replace them both at once.

Scott is right on the money. Replace those beat stock springs. I recently had to bite the bullet and replace all four of mine b/c two broke. I also replaced the struts for the Sensatrac units on all corners as well as the strut mounts and endlinks.

Yeh I am running the tokico with stock springs I think it still makes a pretty big difference over stock but like everyone else said as far as labor goes do them both at the same time

I have a friend that had only installed the Tokico's on his '94 ATX at about 125K miles. The car porpoised badly due to the weak OE or even worst yet, SLO springs. Within a month he couldn't stand it any longer and had to have the Eibach installed. Double the labor and alignment, all because he was trying to save the $220 or so dollars on the springs. Even with newer OE springs, they are not matched to valving or damping rates of the Tokico's or Koni's. You need to upgrade the springs to either the Eibach's or Intrax with those struts.

BTW, the KYB's are probably best matched to non sagging or replacement OE springs.

My advise is to wait a pay or two and save up the cash to the buy the either the Eibach or Intrax springs. Nook has a pretty good deal;

I installed Tokicos without changing the springs at 105,000. works great, no porpoising, no boulevard ride, very tight.
I think porposing is not a factor unless you installed Eibach or similar springs and then used the stock shocks, which could not keep up with the spring rate.
I think the main advantage to the Eibach, etc is lowering the car a bit. I can find no problem with mine at all with the stock springs. They may sag later, then I will start my decision process as far as what springs to buy. The Tokicos are great and worth it. be sure to get new covers for them and use stainless radiator clamps from a marine dealer (auto ones have regular steel screw fitting) because the nylon ties are junk and the covers will slip.

Actually, here in the GREAT SALTY AND RUSTY upper midwest, you want the boots to be loose so all that damn salt water can drain out!!!! Tokicos worked great on my 92, for about 110,000 miles. Then in cold weather the rears sort of solidified and I took them off. The city streets here are way too bumpy for the real stiff suspensions. I spent more time in the air than on the pavement!!
