I'm in the market for a Gen3 SHO. I really want one, but this camshaft thing really has me going. 9 out of 10 people I question about there Gen3 SHO for sale don't know anything about this. So if I get one, I want to be able to see for myself if this has been done.

Anyone know what you do to see if the cams been welded?

Anyone have pics of an unwelded cam, and welded cam so I can see the difference?

You have to pull the vanity cover, pull the IMRC control, pull the coils out, disconnect some hoses, break a plastic T because it's worked itself brittle over the years, and then pull the valve cover off. Check out the sprocket and look for a glob of weld.

That's just for the front though. The rear you have to pull the surge tank and the such.

Very good description! The Tee thing cracked me up.

But you must pull off the rear cover, there are jackasses out there that are welding just the front cams just like the morons change plugs on the front bank only..

Im going to put up my MTX V8 pretty soon, so keep that in mind when your considering a purchase.. Please dont PM me about it yet, as I need to clean it and put a less aggressive clutch disc in it first.

Seems to me that if they don't know if its been welded you should assume it has not.

Then when you do decide what to buy, take it to whomever you wish to perform this service, and have it done. Therby stoning two birds with one ****... checking to see if it was welded and welding it!

I bought mine from a dealer. Guy traded it in on a Caddy there. Saw a SHOclub sticker in the engine bay and decided to take the chance. Dealer had no idea. I got lucky though. Def isn't the norm with cam welds.

It could be, never know. I'm pretty mechanical inclined, so pretty much I got to get the valve covers off then? Anyone have a pic of a v8 SHO dissassembled up top showing the cams and the welds?

Nocover
With no Vanity cover. Shows the IMRC that needs to come off, the harness, and the hoses going to the cover.
Casualty
This tee will most likely break.
Camweld
Mine has 4 small beads on each sprocket.
