Back in December when it was cold (4 degrees) out, I started my SHO, let it warm up and drove it about 7 miles. When I arrived, it was smoking and leaking oil at a good rate. I torn everything down and found the rear bank cam seal had been completely unseated was loose on the end of the cam. The seal slid off I removed the rear timing cover.

Fast forward to tonight, I reinstalled new cam seals a few weeks ago and drove the SHO without issue for several weeks. It was significantly warmer during this time. As I leave work tonight at 7:45, it is again 4 degrees out. I start the car and let it warm up (10 minutes). After making a few stops on my way home, I notice the same smoking from the engine compartment. When I get home, I find that I am leaking oil again at the same rate as before.

I run 5W-30 GTX and Motorcraft filters. I change my own oil and both times the oil level was correct. What gives?

NEVERMIND, I figured it out.

What did you find? Do you put some RTV on the outer diameter of the seal before you install it?

I realized that my catch can that I have must be freezing at those temperatures plugging the oil separator line and PVC system. So the motor was building pressure with no way to let it out so it blew the cam seal again.
