G'day....well looks like the beast is in need of some attention...95mtx...last year, check engine light came on a few times...no symptoms out of the ordinary..drove fine..lately, light on again...steady...engine rpm idle is down to 500 from my normal 900 and seems to be missing badly..will idle smooth at 500 though...no power...check engine lite goes off and she picks up to normal revs..this is happening more often now...also, last night the airbag lite flashes..2 with a pause and then 4 more...checked the posts..is that a 6 or a 2-4..clock spring..??anyhow...60k was done 3 years ago..about 60k km...haven't been able to check codes as of yet as it's cold as **** out..warming up soon though...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated on the low engine rpm cutting in and out more frequently...tach works fine..idicates when the idle drops off to 500 and runs rough...sound like a cam sensor or crank..?? thanks in advance..!!!

There is no reason to guess at the causes. Just check the codes for the EEC and look up the code 24 for the air bag. Please let the Forum know what you find on the trouble codes.

Keep the airbag issue separate from the engine issues, they are not related. The LFC code for the airbag has to be looked up on a separate (not the EEC) list.

The airbag issue might be a clockspring, however, that possibility is rather low on the list. If you are also having cruise control or horn issues, then I'd bump it up to the top.

As for the engine, I'm going to guess that you will have a code that indicates a "Primary Coil X " failure (215, 216, or 217). You're probably dropping two cyclinders and the tach is falling by 1/3rd. Typical operating symptom of a faulty DIS module although it could be a wiring harness or coil issue.

Pull the codes and see what you've got.

Just pulled the codes for the first time..well mine anyway
KOEO...114..114..121..217
KOER...116..136..538
Cylinder Balance Test..26..26

Took her for a ride to warm it up before the test...it's not running on all cylinders FOR SURE...tach indicates fine..idle 400...doesn't stall though...read posts all night, and from what other people have experienced..seems to point to DIS or Coil pack..I've had the car for 3 years and hasn't been much of a problem other than rear brakes and a starter...knock on wood....any thoughts from the experienced would be Greatly Appreciated....Thanks..!!!

Help with codes

Evening all...just pulled the codes for the first time..geeze..that was easy..
KOEO...114..114..121..217
KOER...116..136..538
Cylinder balance test...26

Problem I'm having is engine not running on all cylinders..idles at 500 and no power...doesn't stall though..not sure, but from what i read all night was..code 217..coil # 3 primary circuit failure (fires 2-6 cylinder) which is what came up on the cylinder balance test...check engine light on steady...used to come and go with cutting back in and running well...now runs bad all the time...any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks much..!!

114 = act out of self test range
121 = TPS (throttle position sensor) out of range for self test
217 = coil 3 primary circuit failure

KOER

116 = no earthly idea...no in any of my books or shotimes
136 = left side HEGO indicating lean
538 = Operator error (dynamic response / cylinder balance tests)

Replace your coil pack and 02 sensors...prolly do good things to replace your TPS, too.

Your coil pack is responsible for the two cylinders. everything else is jut icing on the cake. Change your coil pack.

actually, the DIS could be at fault too....

kinda a bad situation... both are pricey....

the ECT will not drop cylinders if the sensor is bad... but it is good PM to change it...
was the car warmed up when the test took place? if not thats the reason you got the code...

if you can try swaping a Coil pack from another car... if that dosent work then its your DIS.... :thumb:
