Ok, here is the deal. I am speaking of my 93 MTX with approx 129k on her.

At idle I have a little timing chain noise ( slapping maybe ) in the front cam cover. I have had both of the cam covers off a few days ago and I took the tensioner apart and cleaned her out. ( There was no gunk. This motor is the cleanist I have ever seen ) I did this to the front and rear, thinking maybe the oil passage was just a little clogged. Re-assembeled correctly and inspected movement. Nice free travel, the chain may be just a bit stretched. The orange pads on the tensioner are nice and new looking.

I still have just the slightest knock/slap noise at my 850 or so idle. Just a little rev and the noise is gone.

My question is... How urgent is this. I will fix it. I just do not want to right now. The noise is not loud, only to be heard with the hood up. But, I want to make sure that she will be ok. I am counting on buying some new tensioners and chains at the convention. But I do not want to damage the car. All my maintence is up to date. The car runs very well. Just this little noise.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Assuming that the noise is the tensioners it will not hurt the car at all. The timing on that bank will be a bit off, but that will mildly affect performance not damage the car.
