You'll shed a few pounds, might go .2 seconds faster, but the time and effort you put in to taking the hood off really doesnt pay off. Save your time....IMHO!
Go on a diet, and leave the hood on. The extra drag up high from no hood might actually slow you down more then the weight reduction would help. It's also not going to help traction off the line either. **** some tracks might not even let you run with no hood.
