cable to rod shift conversion

i have an 89 sho and as i understand it it should have a cable shift. when i pulled the boot to cut the shifter down it looked like solid rods going to te firewall.has this possibly been converted or is this how a cable shifter looks? does it possiby go to cables under the trans? will someone with a cable shifter tell me how to identify it. previous owner has done some mods but i dont know what. in short how do i know if i have ord or cable?

Look under the car, you should see two rods if it has been converted.
You can see mine just to the right of the exhaust.

It sounds like yours has been converted.

Congrats :D

To be sure, just take a peek under the car. If you see two large rods connected to the trans, then you have a rod shifter.

I bought my '89 with a rod shifter pcorn

If you have a rod shifter, you wont be able to see those two "rods" that go to the firewall. Those "rods" are part of the cable shifter before it turns into the cables that go through the floor pan and into the tranny. There is a major difference in the stance of the rod shifter and cable shifter. If your shifter looks like it belongs in a truck than it is the cable shifter. If it looks like a shifter outta a mustang, with a bend in the rod, then it is the rod shifter. Hope this helps.

I have a rod shifted tranny, and i am looking at buying a cable shifted tranny, how to adapt it, or does it just bolt right up?
