i've read a bit about this, what's the deal? (how's it work, and why's it done?) i'll be getting the pioneer deck everyone seems to have, with the MOSFET50 basically does this mean my head unit's more powerful than the stock amp so i dont need it any more? please detail the install as well.

The impedance on the stock amp is different than aftermarket recievers. I believe it is around 6 ohms. If you run the new cd player with the stock amp, you run the distinct possibility of shorting out one or more pieces (including your deck, speakers,or anything else you have wired to that system). So if you do, understand the risk. I am not saying it will definitely happen to you, but I wouldn't take the risk.

To bypass the stock amp, go to the local stereo shop and purchase the wiring harness kit. Make sure you specify you have the premium sound system. This makes installing the deck alot easier anyway. There is a second connector that should be listed as well, this one is for the amp bypass. You simply unplug the stock amp, then plug in the bypass connector. Takes about 5 mins.

If the bass is not enough for you, there is always the aftermarket!

i got the amp integrator harness, and i usually run around 15 of 30 on the volume level, the stock low end sounds pretty good, enough bass to make the rearview mirror vibrate noticably :****:

electronically you *are* better off bypassing it. i was running an alpine 7893 which is now in my acura and i tried it both ways for ***** and giggles. i like it better by passed. plus, inherently, you never want to amplify a signal twice.

as a matter of preference, you may like the nuances the stock amp introduces to the music. this is simply a matter of taste. if you go with a high power head unit though, then your best to bypass it. the alpine v-drive head units need their own amp wiring and will not respond well to being amp'ed a second time through the jbl amp (for example).

if the stock amp is 6ohms, then why do all the stock "premium" speakers say 4 ohms u arent supposed to fun a 6ohm amp with 4 ohm speakers... i think the stock amp is 4 ohms, never had a problem with it. so im happy.

Amplifiers have a minimum impedance (ohm load). To describe an amp as being 4 or 6 ohms really doesn't help in giving any detail about it. Most amps will be rated for output power into a 4 or 2 ohm speaker, possibly less if its a digital (D Class) unit. The amplifier itself doesn't have its own ohm rating per say, but the speakers do. Depending on the impedance of the speakers and how they are attached to the amp (serial or parallel) are the main factors in describing the amp's output.

Bypass the amp(s)

more than likely, the output of the amp built into the new head unit is greater and better overall than that of the factory amps.

Did I mention you can just remove the stock amps... loose a bit of weight :****:

PITA?

no it isnt.

One harness, two plugs. Unplug the stock harness, and insert the bypass harness.

And those little "subltys" as you put it are directly related to:

1. your 10 year old PAPER speakers
2. your 10 year old tired amp

Basically, those little things you say you like are the things that most hate.
