About a month ago I purchased a bypass flex pipe from the SHOshop. I jacked the car up and started on what I thought was going to be a somewhat simple job. Got out the impact wrench and tried to remove the rear clamp, but to no avail headbang . I didn't have another clamp at the time and didn't want to break it without a replacement. Anywho, I also tried to remove the front bolts, but thought I was going to break the wrench (yes I did use liquid wrench to try and help loosen the rust) headbang . It looks like the nuts are welded to the pipe and just the bolts spin. Is this right? shrug I was curious about the fitment of the new pipe so I held it up to the old one, and it doesn't seem to be a very friendly fit. If I get the old one off somehow, will the new one work with just a clamp on it like the old setup? It looks like there is going to be a gap at the rear of the pipe as the new pipe goes around the outside of the resonator. The stock setup has the flex pipe fitting inside the resonator, which makes more sense to me. I'm not interested in removing the resonator right now, just the flex pipe. Any help would be appreciated, as I've had this $115 piece of crap laying around for a month. Ohh yeah and they didn't send me a new gasket like it says on their website. I sound like a complete ***** doh , but I don't like exhaust work, and if someone has some prior experience, that would give me a good place to start. Thanks.

IMNSHO, send the bypass pipe back. Get underdrive pulley(s). the bypass pipe is not worth the money and will not give you any increase that you can feel.

Better not get the SHO Shop pulleys. Good luck getting them to fit. I found out the hard way. I've got another alternator coming from Al Fitz. I'll see if I can get it to fit that one. Apparently there was a difference between the '96 alt and the '97+ alternator.

ok...I've been reading this topic and the other regarding the 3rd cat removal. Am I the ONLY person on this board who noticed gains from taking the 3rd cat out? ****, my 1/4 time even dropped a full tenth and going on my absolute BEST trap speed, gained on average a little over 1MPH...comparing best to best I gained around 2.5mph.... As far as non 1/4mile gains, the car pulled noticably harder during/after the 3rd gear TC lockup. boink

Yes.

Only thing I noticed was a deeper resonant tone in the Borla exhaust on the car.

No most of us have noticed the gains you speak of, there are certain people that are addiment that it causes a loss. It dont so I will delete the BAD info everytime its posted. Now only if they would do this at V8SHO, this question would stop.

UDP's dont gain much if anything, and thats if your one of the lucky ones to have them work. The SS sucks and so dont all of thier products.

A good mod, that has not been tested would be the UDP's with the addition of the VAK.

Exhaust mods are real easy to figure out, but you need to use the same exit diameter pipes, to creat the back pressure, by removing tghe third cat and res you are creating a cheap but workable like device called an expanstion (sp) chamber.
Ron tried this but removed the factory tips causing no place for the exhaust to pressureize.
