well i was doing a tune up on a 3.2 tonight and i had to change the vavle cover gasket and the gasket around the spark plugs ( there was like 2 inches of oil in the tubes) and i took off the covers and the inside of the heads were redish orangish brownish.
what does this mean?

half-way there, I think.
Looks like typical pennzoil head, for whatever reason pennzoil leaves a nasty looking film on everything. Nothing really to worry about.

I dunno.. I think it looks just about like any other head with a good bit of miles on it... and used regular dino oil... kinda hard to tell from the pic in that light. I wonder whats in penzoil tho... :)

Pictures are a little fuzzy, but everything looks normal to me. Here's one to compare with:

yeah, oil is nasty stuff. that's a normal engine that's been through a lot of dino oil. Synthetic doesn't stain nearly as bad, and if you run some seafoam through the oil, it should clean a lot of that off.

Curious... never heard of it, what is seafoam?

It's one of those cleaner additives... can go in the gas, oil, even into a vac line to clean out the intake/heads if you're careful about it.

I've only put it in my gas, mostly for the **** of it.

Just run a little B-12 through your oil, that'll clean it (and EVERYTHING else) out!!

The new synthetics from PenzState are suppose to be pretty good.

If you want a cheaper alternative to the B12 get some lacquer thinner.

I love seafoam. i use it in the gas tank, put it in my oil the day of my oil change and through my vacume lines. you notice MPG and powergains. For oil i use either mobil one or castroil Syntec. Im probly switching to royal purple soon
