I just installed my Quaife'd trans, fibertuff 9 puck clutch w/ a rev b TOB. That TOB is noisy! I've only heard of bad TOB being noisy..?? I installed a new sleeve for the TOB, loctite across the "lip" that presses onto the trans case.

I'm hoping this little bucking problem that occurred after spraying 2 years of settled leafs, dirt, and dust (hah..!!) off the motor w/ very low pressure water, it developed a mis-fire. Bad wires. I let the motor dry out the wires at idle and during drives around the area, it's running much smoother, but has this "bucking" problem when i launch, now! Shifting isn't affected. Every shift is smooth w/ the slight notchy feel (Jose Short shifter) at the end of travel. It doesn't feel abnormal. Running MTL w/ brass rings. Could this be a low-rpm misfire? Here are some instances where it wont buck...

1.) Launch slipping the clutch at 1800-2000 until it's rev matched.
2.) Low RPM (1500~) launch w/ a little "extra" slipping.

Now, this is a different clutch from OEM, but it didn't buck like this before. It feels like it almost bogs the motor out a bit? Hmm.. Input? BTW, racked the car on a new alignment rack and checks the trans fluid level, totally full!

Sounds to me like you just need to get used to the new 9-puck. As well as launch at a higher rev. 2500 rpm with the 9-puck, assuming you have a decent suspension and good tires, it pretty good.

The 9-puck is a nice disc, but can be chattery is engaged at too low RPM. It GRABS. And as you will find out, it will grab even more quickly when warm.

I know with mine, if it gets hot (lots of traffic use, or very spirited driving), it is nearly an ON/OFF disc. Not much in the middle.

Almost forgot.

That noise isnt the TOB. It is the clutch disc. Inherent to its design. And it will not get any better. Nature of the beast.

Sweet! I like that news! lol... Perhaps the 9 puck is getting more aggressive due to more mileage during break-in... Thanks!

Just try launching or rolling from a stop at a higher rpm. If it smooths out, then it is more than likely the disc.

It is a GREAT disc, but has its drawbacks. It doesnt like to go slow:biggrin:

Well that was the thing, no other shift is compromised, bucking or quality wise. In addition, for testing reasons ONLY, i let the motor idle in 1st @ ~1100 rpms and accelerated (not fast, but to test for the bucking) and found a nice, smooth launch. So it all makes sense now. I have 275mi on it so far, i think i'm going to compromise w/ the break-in 100mi short of 500... This is my first Quaifed SHO! :naughty:
