I have a bubble too, it cost like nothing, but no one seems to know how to swap one in.

no one knows? everyone knows now. i tired to keep that secret for years. i beleive i made the first one way back in 99. what you need to do is take the curcuit board from a 93+ unit and solder the newer faceplate to it. then you'll have to modify the mounting tabs around the lense that hold it to the rear part. its easy if you know how to solder and use a knife.

I don't have a 93+ deck..... I have a 91. If I was going to get a 93+ I'd just get a hard button, but they cost a LOT.

MYSHO1, I have a bubble face, but it's in my living room not in the car lol.

you need a 93 unit or newer with the part number F3DH-19C933-**. all you are using is the mainboard so find one in a junkard with the face busted or lots of broken buttons. then the best unit to get for the face is out of a mark VIII which has the same button layout as ours. the reason you cannot use the 92 and older units is because they have a chip on the facepate board and use dual 6 wire ribbon cables. the newer units have dual 8 wire ribbon cables which works with most newer faceplates. if i could find a damn 93+ unit in the junkyard i'll do a write up but iv'e been looking for months now and i can't find one. i need one so i can install the green on i have for the 91. anymore questions feel free to ask!

I used a bubble face from a 95 continental, it is larger so there isn't a "gap" which is common with the smaller mark VIII units, they I swapped the vent and pnl-flr button from the mark VIII unit so I dont have a gap, and I have the correct button layout.

I've done the conversion for people in the past if you don't feel confident enough to do it yourself. I send the modified unit back fully tested.

Yes but can you convert a Gen1 softbutton, 91, to a bubble face? It is that or I have to find one from a 93+, which I might as well just find like a 95 hard button :(

I've been doing them for $40 plus shipping (usually about $8 each way). You would have to supply me with both units. I'll test the SHO eatc to be sure it works both before and after the surgery. It doesn't matter if the lincoln unit doesn't function since the buttons are all that need to work. I'm sure someone will have a comment about the price, but consider I normally charge $80/hour bench time and it does take about an hour.

I've read a lot of posts in the past asking for a good write-up on this so I'm going to do a very detailed how-to and put it on my website when I do the next one. That way if someone wants to try it, they will have all of the information that they need. If not, they'll have the option to send it out to whoever they choose.

here are some pics of the Mark VIII unit, and the continental unit, I would suggest getting the Continental unit as it has a larger surface area and will not leave a gap like the mark VIII unit however the button layout is not the same. You will have to swap the max ac button with the vent button, then find a pnl-flr button from a mark VIII unit., i happened to have both units so i posted pics of the differences, and the continental unit with the swapped buttons. swapping the buttons is easy, remove the face and gently pry the tabs back with a small screwdriver as shown. :thumb:

you can get the larger faces out of a lot of vehicles. grand marquis, continental, also explorers and the like though they have "rear fan" built into the display. sad thing is there is no one unit you can find, rewire and have it perfect. you either have to find the pan*flr button or find a different faceplate. its quite a project if you don't have a local pick and pull. what i did on the 93 was use a grand marquis face and curcuit board and replaced all the lower buttons with ones from a 95 explorer as they are in a little different font. for the 91 i'm using an explorer face plate, switched outside temp button and grand marquis curcuit board, only i need the 93+ main board.
