A breakout box is a ford special tool...connects inline with the ECM...Used so you don't haev to backprobe wires to monitor stuff with a DVOM

A break-out box is a tap on all of the lines that go into your car's computer. What it allows you to do is measure any of the lines and also to inject some 12 volts or ground on any of them also. It's a great tool for diagnosing a problem . The bad news: It's a ***** to install in our cars.

more rubber, more HP.....
You can find a new breakout box for around $400.

They sometimes show up on ebay (used) for substantially less..

Sometimes, ebay is your friend, LOL..
