Anyone have a set of these they would like to comment on?
ebay

How much cooler will they be?

Any problems warping?

Any problems with rust or derbis in the holes?

You would be hard pressed to find better brakes than what is standard equipment from the factory on the GEN3. The best brake mod is the rear plugs for the proportioning valve. The next best brake mod is better tires.

People who have warping problems have less than OEM quality pads. IMHO

People keep telling me I need better rotors, better calipers, two pistons, different pads....

I can get my 245/45s on 7.5" rims to kick in the ABS. How much better can you get your brakes to work?

The only advantage to changing anything would be lifetime warranted performance pads.

Paul,

Tell me more about plugs for the proportioning valve. I have serious interest in any brake mods that you care to share. I have nothing more than some drilled front rotors ( I know, looks only ) and some "performance" brake pads.
Thanks for any help that you can provide.

i know i may sound out of place, but would those rotors bolt up to my 95 (assuming i have the 96+ front caliper brackets). What about the rear brakes, would i need anything else, i dont recall the rear disc size between gen 2's and 3's at the moment.

i am in need of disc-age, and 115 dollars for rotors all around is a lot better deal then the local belle tire (or whomever) would charge me.

Paul, would there be any advantage to getting a vented rear disk setup?

The plugs are an easy and effective mod assuming your ABS is working. You can get them from Kirk or Midwest SHO IIRC. These will make the rear brakes work much harder and helps out quite a bit.

The vented rear brakes require a complete knuckle change I think and are more trouble prone than the solids. Also heavier or so I've been told.

The rear brakes are the same on all '93-'99 SHOs.

Would I be best off considering the Plug modification right now, allong with getting all of the rest of the brake system restored with origional equipment. Like, would it be best to do it all togeather when its all apart?

what exactly does the modification consist of? is it costly?

The bias plugs can be done anytime. They are not expensive but I don't know the current going price.

I have found the best thing to do for good brakes on the GEN 3 is to flush the fluid and make sure the pins aren't sticking in the back. As a normal maintenance on my '97 I tear the brakes down at least once a year for inspection and cleaning/relubing the pins. At this time I flush the fluid out and replace with new.

IMHO almost all problems people have with the GEN 3 brakes is the use of inferior pads and stale brake fluid.

You dont need a complete knuckle change to do the vented disc brake mod. I did mine a few weeks ago, actually a drum to Vented disc conversion on a gen 4 Taurus SEL. You dont need to completely change the knuckle. You need the caliper bracket adapter, the hubs, and other parts from a gen 1/2.

I will try to snap a pic today.
