Lately I have noticed that when my brakes get a little heat in them, my brake pedal does not return all the way to the top. I have also noticed that when I pull the brake pedal back up when it does not return itself, that it feels like I am releasing the brakes a bit at that point.

I have noticed the car running a little more hot than usual and my gas mileage is going down...I'm guessing I have a sticking caliper...am I correct? I haven't really noticed increased dusting except on my front right wheel. I had that caliper checked and it is free and clear.

Any thoughts?

Power Brake booster. When you lift the pedal and you feel like you released the brakes, it is because you DID release the brakes. There is a part that gets worn out and keeps the pedal down a bit.

I would replace that soon.(fun job :) )

Not that hard a job as far as SHO crap goes. You can use any parts recycled Taurus 4 wheel disk setup, and normally go for 35-50 clams at any good parts recycler place. My 91 got a 95 Taurus LX whole brake booster and master cylinder setup in it for a total of $50 and 2 hours' work.
Been working fine for past 3 years. I had the same problem as you a re reporting.

Ok so I have phoned a few wreckers and Ford to see what a new one would cost. Well as you can imagine Ford is way off...$471 list price for the brake booster!! I can get a used brake booster for $50 close by. My question is, they do not seem to differentiate between 4 wheel disc and disc drum setup when I talk with them. Do I need to get one for 4 wheel disc cars? I was told by a few wreckers that the only difference is ABS or non-ABS.

Also, they keep on asking if I need the brake booster or the ABS Pump Assembly. I just need the booster, correct?

Just got the booster over lunch. It was $50 or $40 if I took it off. Since I needed to get back to work and in my work cloths, I paid the $50. It is for ABS car off a 95 Taurus.

I went to Parts Source last night to price one and they said they did not exist in the aftermarket?! Ah well, this should do since these boosters failing seems to be a rare occurance. Thanks for the help!

Just thought I would update everyone. I have replaced the brake booster with the one from the wrecker and all is well now. Thanks for the help everyone, I don't know what I would do without the forum in these situations.

The booster is the same for rear disk/drum, but the master cylinder is different.
