You may just want to bypass it if you have ABS. It will increase your braking power by actually using your rear brakes.

How would one bypass it?
Josh at SHO Nut sells the plugs to replace the valves, and Kirk makes the same type of plugs by modifying the stock valve.

You can also disconnect the arm and zip-tie the lever to the valve body, but it still doesn't flow as much to the rear brakes as it does with the plugs in place.

The same part is used on any Taurus of similar vintage. You can always pick one up from a junkyard if needed.

adi,

How did you come to the conclusion that your proportioning valve needs to be replaced? Failure of the proportioning valve is extreemly rare.

As Steve pointed out, the proportioning valve is not SHO specific. It was used on the Taurus/Sable, and may have been used on other platforms for the same model year. Either, a new one or used one, should be very easy to get.

Lastly, do not bypass it if you are driving the car on the public roads. If you are just using the car for racing, bypassing it is OK. rangerj
