I'm looking for adapters to modify/upgrade the rear brakes.

For details, please view http://sho.kythri.net/rear_brake_upgrade/

Does anyone know about these, and know where I can get a pair (or have a pair for sale)?

The rear brakes do so little work that there is very little to gain from upgrading them.

True that they dont do much, but to those of us with really "open" 17 and 18 inch wheels the rears look horrible, id get em just to make the brakes look like they fit. 96 brakes all around would look awsome, but you would lose the parking brake i think ??????

This has been tossed around. The rear caliper to use is the early model (pre-'93) caliper that is intended for the vented rotor. Remember the first SHOs used 10.9" vented rotors (the same rotor) front and rear. Later SHOs used a solid rotor. Anyone who has the early car just needs the proper bracket and larger rotor to do this upgrade and retain the parking brake.

Later SHOs need the brackets, the rotors AND to backdate to the early caliper. The pictures on that site show the early rear caliper with the big '96 rotor.

Bad idea unless you have a big brake kit up front like the Baers, Wilwoods, cobras, etc or are willing to reproportion the rear brake. If you do this with 11.6" front brakes you will have way too much rear bias.

John V. is right expect that the '89 SHO used the same exact 10.1" rotor front and rear. The '90-92 Gen I's used the same size 10.1" front and rear.

Anyway, the point he made is correct. Unless you have gone past the '96 11.6" front brake upgrade to either of the 12.5" Baer/PBR or the 13.0" Cobra/Baer/PBR or the one of the Wilwood kits, upgrading the rears to a 11.6" setup would be functionally fruitless. Although I would have to agree that with open design 17" or 18" wheels, the stock 10.1" rear rotors do look non-existent. Some people have also decide that they want 13" rotors front and back for looks only, to which I say to each his own.

Also any rear brake upgrade should be accompanied with a change in the rear load proportional valve setup. You need to make sure you have the proper fluid flow to the rear calipers and a balanced braking system.

For '93-99 SHO's the mod consists of '96 11.6" front rotors, stock '90-92 rear calipers, mounting brackets and pads along with a set of custom machined caliper mounting bracket adapters and hub centric ring adapters to fit the 11.6" rotors on the rear hubs. These adapters move the rear caliper about 3/4" further out from the rear axle centerline as well as center the caliper side to side with the larger rotor allowing for proper clearance and alignment.

The first person to do this mod was Glen Murdock back in Nov '99. He machined his own adapters as have many others.

Hey, I was wondering if the brackets would work on the front? I have a 92 and I get the feeling that the only way to up-grade the brakes is some $800.00 kit, can i us the bracket up front or is this a dumb question??? help
