Brake light stuck on

My fiance's mother has a problem with her 1988 Lincoln Towncar. One of the brake lights is on at all times. I have not looked at the car yet but I was trying to get some ideas of what to check.

All of the others work correctly? Was it replaced recently with a single filiment bulb?

The others work fine and none have been replaced.

Shorted wire to that one socket? I'd probably say you could just run new wires from a working socket to the problem one.
