I've noticed that recently my brake light has been coming on while I accelerate in first gear. At first it was just coming on untill I let off the gas, now it doesn't go off until I go into second. It seems to happen much easier while my car is still warming up. Any ideas?

Check the Fluid level in the master cylinder.
Also, check to make sure that your e-brake pedal is in the tightest position. If there is any slack in the pedal, it can drop down and make contact, causing the light to go on.
If it is loose, you need to adjust the e-brake cables under the car.

It's the brake fluid level is low. You will need new pads soon.

It's probably because the brake fluid is low.
The question is, why is the fluid low? :)
Check for leaks. It happened to me and the leak was in the line running along the floorboard, driver side, middle of the car.

I didn't think the brake fluid would be low, since I put new fluid in just before going to madison. I guess that is an easy fix (for once)

Thanks

yeah Lindsey, Check the brake fluid. If it's low fill it up and the light should go away.

The other problem mentioned here is a pretty easy fix. The e-brake light switch merely needs adjusting.

I had this problem as well, refill the brake booster with Dot3 brake fluid. I would also change your pads as well.

I agree with rangerj. The light would not be coming on if the system was not trying to tell you something. Like you need new pads or you have a leak in the system (low hydrolic pressure)or it could be as simple as a parking brake pedal or cable adjustment needed. Adding brake fluid will only temporarily solve your problem. If you have a leak then the light will come on again. If you need pads, when the get changed the system will be over filled and will make an awful mess when the pistons are compressed.

wow I didn't realize this thread was still alive. It was just low fluid.

I was thinking that it was a connection and it was shorting out while the car ******, so I thought I'd ask.

Maybe it is trying to tell you something! rangerj
