brake issue...

well i haven't gone and looked at it really yet.....

so this is the deal i was on my way into work 1/2 way in i lost most my brakes.. now the past day or so i noticed the pedal is spongy. didn't think much of it brakes still felt nice.....

now there is a bad abs sensor i broke it changing the ball joint... now i haven't fixed it yet,but i know that that's why my abs light is on at least b4 this was goin on... today was about 20deg or so, if that matters..

well here's the deal....

the pedal drops to the floor about 1 inch there is a tad bit of brakes... very little but it will stop and slow the car from 40mph.............

when braking it feels as if the front passenger and rear drvers are the only ones applying the brakes bet then it feels as if the drivers front kicks in very little and stops the pulling to the right..

one thing tho is i found no fluid anywhere... when it was in the driveway when it sat at work..... i do know the reservoir was low on fluid but not bad..
so only thing i got in mind is ether its something in the front drivers side or the abs crap to a crap....

what you guys think???

well im for sure there aint a leak... all the wheels are dry, no drips on the ground topped off the reservoir pumped and pumped the brakes and didn't find a leak.. so im waiting on some one to show up to help pump the pedal while i check all the wheels and see if i can find a caliper that's froze?

May be a bad master cylinder. It is divided into two sections. One front side the opposite rear side.

well my friend came over im gonna see what i find checking each wheel, bleed the passenger side got air out of it for omost the whole time of bleeding???? didnt seem to stop.. pedal came up some but still sponge???

well like i said i haven't found any leaks yet... i been bleeding the passenger side rear i have ran omost 3/4s of a bottle of fluid threw it.. still getting air bubbles..

i plan to go buy one of these today

I bet the brake line behind and above the gas tank is rusted through.

i had just replaced that section about a month ago right b4 it went.. it fell apart when removing it..

i had a **** of a time tryin to get it to bleed then.. did after 3 hours of pumping... pedal was doing the same crap..

well i bought that tool today works great!!!! i had some air still in the rears got it all out with that tool! changed the pads since they were toast. pedal has came up some but now it feels like only the rears are working good.. so im gonna work on bleeding the fronts and see what happens..

might even need front pads???

well after bleeding all 4 corners and changing the rear pads i have brakes... they still drop lower then i would like but the car stops and damn good!!

well i picked up an abs sensor installed it and all pedal has gotten a little softer since i bleed them yesterday.. well i take the car for a ride and go down a dirt road to check my abs and after a few times the pedal is hard and the brakes feel like they are hardly applying?? thinkin it might be due for a master cyclinder..

If you can't get the ABS to cycle then your brakes are no good. What kind of pads do you have and what condition are the rotors?

oh the abs cycles just after it did a few times the brakes felt weak when not getting the abs to kick in?

also only changed rear pads and still seems to not have any diff?

Well if the ABS is kicking in then the brakes are locking up. Problem then would be your tires.

no car aint sliding feels like the brakes are weak at applying the pads to the rotors the abs barely helps the car stop feels like the pads have ice on them... now i bleed the rears some.. good fluid flow again... seems like the rears are about the only thing stopping the car right now... gonna re bleed the fronts and see what happens.. the pedal feels kind of hard now? and dont drop as far now that i bleed the rears...

YES!!! it does kick on!....

just didn't seem to have all its stopping power still!!



tho since i bleed the fronts and did some good stops and got the abs to run the brakes seem to be doing fine... now this is the same deal that happen last time next day it was to the floor no brakes i guess if that happens again im gonna replace the master cylinder, which doesn't look to hard!

Well if the ABS is kicking in then the tires are loosing traction. The brakes obviously have the ability to lock up the wheels. Tires are as important to the workings of your brakes as any other part of the system.

If you brake system up to the tires were not in good shape then the ABS wold not be kicking in.

The only other explanation is only one or two of the brakes are working but I am sure you have checked into this first.....

well the abs seemed like it was weak like it didnt have enough fluid supply thats about the only way i can explain it.....

seems good now! lets see what happens after a day.

well right after i posted that the pedal had dropped..... long story short i went and bought a re-man master cylinder for like $40 wasn't bad at all.. 3 hours later the brakes were nice and hard.. today stayed just as hard and hasn't dropped ,brakes haven't been better!
