While dropping the fuel tank I noticed that the hardline that runs from the proportioning valve to the RR caliper hose looked BAD. So I am going to replace it. Being that this is Virginia, I didn't think it would be too hard to find some nice, rust free lines. I was able to locate a nice replacement for the line that goes across the car, but I also found and pulled a set of brake lines from a gen 4 Sable.

"Most" gen 4 Taurus/Sable to not seem to have the proportioning valve - the 2000 Sable I pulled the front to rear hard lines from did not. The 2002 Taurus that I got the one short line from did.

What I'm wondering is - should/could I replace the front to rear hard lines with the 2000 Sable pieces, with no proportioning valve?''

I guess it would be essentially the same thing as adding bias plugs on a gen 2. From the looks of it, the front to rear lines I have on my car now would probably be okay, but I have this nice set that I could just swap out and never have to worry about it.

Maybe it has to do with ABS or rear disk brakes options.

Note that on my 2002 LX , it had no factory ABS what so ever.

I didn't check the ABS/no ABS, I just assumed they had it. Both were rear drum cars.

I'm thinking replacing the front to rear lines would be more work, but there would be no question of their condition.

The lines usually go bad under the drivers seat where there is a dogleg in the lines with a plastic cover over it.
