Don't take my advice.
While dropping the fuel tank I noticed that the hardline that runs from the proportioning valve to the RR caliper hose looked BAD. So I am going to replace it. Being that this is Virginia, I didn't think it would be too hard to find some nice, rust free lines. I was able to locate a nice replacement for the line that goes across the car, but I also found and pulled a set of brake lines from a gen 4 Sable.
"Most" gen 4 Taurus/Sable to not seem to have the proportioning valve - the 2000 Sable I pulled the front to rear hard lines from did not. The 2002 Taurus that I got the one short line from did.
What I'm wondering is - should/could I replace the front to rear hard lines with the 2000 Sable pieces, with no proportioning valve?''
I guess it would be essentially the same thing as adding bias plugs on a gen 2. From the looks of it, the front to rear lines I have on my car now would probably be okay, but I have this nice set that I could just swap out and never have to worry about it.
