bouncing temperature gauge

I have noticed a strange problem. recently a couple times I have started the SHO and the temperature gauge goes to teh top of the scale. then as the RPM's go up the gauge will come down.until it gets around the bottom of teh gauge. It will also jump up and down eradically. some times it will stay that way for a while and then it will just go back to normal on the next restart. the single post sensor is connected well but it has been through a overheating(TB hose burst) and I wondered if this could cause and odd failure like this or if I should check teh wireing better.

I would replace the sender and check all of the wire if the problem persists.
