FWIW, I've been on the V8 SHO mailing list for, well, FOREVER!!

90% of the conversations are about all kinds of other stuff (interesting, actually!), and occasionally a newbie will show up with a question that was answered 10 years ago, or, VERY rarely, someone will come up with a problem. Then, someone will come up with a solution they found 10 years ago.

Interest for things on the V8 SHO haven't changed in a long time!!

I think most people just wanted to keep them running...

Pretty much that.

Got a rust bubble forming down low behind the pass side back door...might break out the sander and see how much worse I can make that.

Sure would be nice to figure out how to stop the burnt oil/trans fluid smell when it's idling.

But at the end of the day -- a running car is a good car.

On a side note -- currently researching the possibility of replacing my wife's Montero with an 05 Aviator I came across locally, so that could get interesting.

Aw bummer.

The only car I ever "blew" was the Tbird in my sig.
I was driving the tires off it at the time. Boost gauge was in the red (15+), coming out of an S-curve at the edge of 3rd gear and RIGHT before I hit the clutch for 4th -- ****.
I limped it home blowing a steady stream of thick blue smoke.
It may or may not have been salvageable -- I barely looked at it, there was oil everywhere, it just made me sad.

I got exactly what I deserved driving it like that with that kind of mileage, but at the same time - I was happy that it went down swinging.

I got backed into by an accord the other day. I took bits of its bumper and theirs is hanging because it broke clips. Some scuffing on mine, will buff out.

Was a hit and run but I found the car. Gave them an opportunity to be honest. Police report gets filed tomorrow because that didn't pan out.

Someone punched a dent into my drivers side fender the same day. Knuckle imprints and everything.

Those will both be fixed this winter.

Also my neighbors may be victims of a random arson.

Liquid you just blew the seals in the turbo. Cheap and easy fix if you would have stayed with the IHI. The Lima blows in bigger ways then that.

I'm trying to keep it going too. If we want real excitement in these parts, we should be pushing for the original intake. The V-8 has plenty of potential and with the right transmission rebuild, which I'm sure many have already done, getting an original intake would make these into real performers.

I am actually looking forward to geting my 98 back and preparing it for the upciming snow. Currently the car is with my daughter in Columbus. She has a new car and I am picking the SHO up on Veterans day. I plan on checking brakes, tires, and any other wear items.

Picked up the 98 from Columbus. About the same shape is was in June. The headlights are super faded and yellow. Can't really drive at night. I checked consumer reports and the brand Sylvania headlight restoration kit for about $21 is what they recommend. Anyone ever use a head light restoration kit before? I did have to add a lot of power steering fluid. I might need to track down where it is leaking from.

My Lights were foggy also but i just picked up some 2000 grit sandpaper wet sanded the highlights till they were nice and smooth then i just buffed them with some rubbing compound. Im not sure what works the best when buffing them but rubbing compound worked for me. After that i bought some silverstars and they light up the road really good now.

Sealing the headlights after polishing is an important final step to making sure you don't have to work on 'em continously. In a pinch, might try a synthetic/polymer wax for a sealer, such as Meguiar's NXT 2.0.

The finest sandpaper I have is 600 which feels too coarse. I might pick up some 2000 along with the sealer/wax. I want to get them clear for winter but might have to repeat the process in the spring.

600 is very definitely too coarse. Rather than using sand paper at all, I suggest a couple of different grits of rubbing compound or specialized plastic lens cleaning fluid. That latter is how I did mine, and the results were crystal clear and two years later are still that way, without any additional later protective coating.

That's the dent from the Accord? Is there more to the story/
I purchased the Turtlw wax headlight restorer for $8.00, O Rily's did not have the Sylvania brand. Stuff works amazing. I had enough left over to buff a simple coat on my 98 mustang. I wish i took some before and after pictures. Have you ever noticed the headlight kits always show the Taurus lights?
