I need insight and opinions from turbo veteran's.

I am debating with myself which car to boost...

Most of you already know about my clean build '94. As for '89 current being worked on...

I will list pro and con, from what I gather from my knowledge and opinion.

'94-
Pros
-Quaifed
-Healthy 3.2
-Ready to install(however will need swap clutch)
-Got A/C, plan use more as Daily Driver(weather wise)

Cons
-ABS Hcu in way, need relocated from cramping up the turbo
-swap out the cm1 for cm3
-A/C condensator creates tight spot for large one sided intercooler, will like to retain A/C's
-will need to swap out dual exhaust (custom fabricated 2 1/2" Dual exhaust with 40 series flowmaster, look so right at home) for 3" single(previous toolman's) as not sure will look good on '94 body style?
-Heavier than '89

'89-
Pros
-Lightweight
-no ABS to frill with, more space to work around
-Have cm3 ready
-Can use 3" single exhaust which will look good!
-Does not have any A/C system.

Cons
-will need pull quaifed tranny from '94 and install cm3(eventho' still have to)
-will need built 3.0, or seek other healthy 3.2
-Buy other quaife(in order to leave quaifed in '94)

The swap work doesnt bother me at all, If I cannot obtain quaife in soon future then the diff pin will need to be weld for DD ones.

As I was told and researched shows that if want to be conservative with tranny on boost, it would be better to go 3.0, and retain 3.2 for NA as DD.

Hard decision for me to make...:nut: so whats your input and opinion?

without forged pistons your transmission should be safe at those boost levels if you're running a quaife or wavetrack. breaking 3rd gear is still likely to happen but it's tough to say which will give up first between it and the pistons.

the 89 sounds more fun with a turbo though. and to make the install look as good as the outside of the car will greatly increase cost. you could always run a alky injection instead of an intercooler to save on space and piping.

What is wrong with the 3.0 in the 89?

Not bad motor...just leaking everywhere and very tiring at 160k...If I am gonna boost it. I gonna give it complete overhaul, that would include giving it a cylinder honing for new rings and have the valves look over with lapping seats as well valve seals. That may take a while before I achieve it.:munch:

Just my $0.02... I'd be sore pressed to dig back into a car I just finished putting together. Just seems like gilding the lily. Keep it as is and enjoy your hard work.

Building a monster turbo car out of an 89... , sure that makes sense.:sun:

Thanks guys for helping me lock the decision, Yes I have been contemplating the '89 to be boosted. Currently it's under body work by my students and myself as their mentor at school.

I will post up progression of it on other thread.

Again, thanks!
