Book Rate for Valve Lash Adjustment?

Over the past year I've almost done the entire 60K service. Recently I had the timing belt replaced when the car would not start, and the crankshaft position sensor at the same time.

The only thing I have not had done is the valve lash adjustment. I can rent the kit from SHOSource. Can anyone tell me the book rate (hours of labor) for a mechanic to do this?

Alternately, can anyone recommend a SHO expert in the Dallas / Fort Worth area that does the 60K and can do the valve lash for me?

3.5 hours for both banks to remove and replace valve cover/tube seals, and 1.4 per bank for the adjustment. If you tackle it yourself don't set it too tight like I did my first time. You have to get a feel for it.

Is Sergio Houston area or Dallas area? I would track him down. The facebook group would be faster on that I would think.

Also look for Tony Huerta and there are some other great knowledgeable SHO people in Texas if you can track them down. I don't remember who's from where but there are a handful from the major metro areas that are very good with wrenching on these cars

If you can hear some ticking, then a look is required.
For whatever reason, these engines do not see much valve train wear. Most people do the lash check and don't replace anything, as it is usually in spec.

I have been inside at least 8 of these engines and only needed to adjust shims on two valves, and that was after a cam swap. So, the odds are about 100:1 that you do not need any adjustment on the valves.

For whatever reason, these engines do not see much valve train wear. Most people do the lash check and don't replace anything, as it is usually in spec.

When I have done a valve adjustment I tend to replace shims but it does vary, not everyone needs them.

Since I handle the SHO Source shim kits I see a large number of results and I would say a lot more replace then do not. Somewhere around 75% tend to replace shims.

Sergio appears to be in Houston, but I see Scott @sdpatt is in Richardson, Texas and that's close by to me. There is a Tony Huerta that runs North Texas Performance in Dallas.

Not to speak for Scott, but I'm not sure that he really works on other peoples cars. He's obviously very capable but he is an engineer with family and stuff to do. I would shoot for Tony first and, if he can't do it, I bet he knows others in the circle to recommend. Dale was out there I think and I forget all the other guys from Texas.

Speaking for Scott, I used to service other SHOs (about 2 dozen gap jobs), but the schedule in the near future, with heavy work hours, vacation, building a new house, selling my current house (tonight), preparing to move and driving daughter to club volleyball nationals in Indianapolis all in the next month, I think my plate is full. Do you know Tony Huerta? He's had my SHO for four months at North Texas Performance and I am about to tear my hair out over how he does business. I need to talk to someone that knows the man.
