i think that this is my problem. i had a problem disengaging the cruise control the other day which really scared the crap out of me. i have also been having problems getting my ATX out of park all the fuses are ok. all the bulbs are ok but i have no brake lights most of the time.

My question is about this part. Can i get this at Autozone or is it dealership only? what are the part numbers? i'm guessing that all i have to do to install this piece is unclip the wire side on the left and pull out the red pin on the right?

any info would be greatly appreciated.

The brake light switch is the Wells F4843 at AutoZone for $5.29 or the Borg-Warner S6031 for $6.79 from O'Reilly. I installed the Wells part. The only tool you'll need is needle-nose pliers to remove the spring clip. Take a good mental note of the orientation and order of the nylon bushings and washers that you pull off the shaft when replacing it.

Check the wires at the connector, they break where the crimp is at the 90 is under plastic cover.More common than the switch going bad. :thumb:

Like Scott said, keep a note of how the washers were in there.
Tight little spot to be swapping this and that to see what works.
I had problems with my switches.I went through 3 of them in less than a month.
So I wired a light on the dash, when the brake lights are "really" working so is the light.

I've got a couple of spare ones out here if you want to spend 9.00 in gas to keep from having to spend the 7.00. :D

I'll be enjoying a weekend up at my cabin with my Dad and my three other brothers. I'm leaving Friday morning, but you're welcome to come over tonight after 5 PM, and I'll help you with it. My back is not in the greatest of connditions, so you'll have to do the under-dash pretzel twist.

PM me your cell phone number and I'll give you directions.

Where do you live?

Tom
