How much does the unibody part of a gen II weigh? I am talking no doors, glass, lines, interior, motor, trans..ect... All of it out.. taking the fenders off, bumpers, trunk lid, hood, trim..all of it.. what would that weigh? Would 4 guys pick that up? I ask this question because I want it painted inside and out...and under. I need to put it on a rotisserie to do this and i need to know if i can totally strip it down and pick it up. any data would help.

Well, if this helps any... After unbolting the subframe with engine, tranny, and all suspension stuff on it, me and a friend were able to lift the front of the car up over the entire subframe section. Im 5 11 140 and my friend was around the same. The car itself is not very heavy...

Im gonna guess 3 people my size should have no problem lifting up JUST the unibody with nothing attached.

Gen2 chassis is 596 Lbs. Add another 60 Lbs for sound deadening material and odds and ends not removed for painting.

Hood and deck are 90 Lbs.
Doors are 132 Lbs.
Total BIW of the Gen2 is 818 Lbs (sheetmetal only).

Now that is impressive. Where did you get all of that information?

I have the power of teh google!!!

Pulled it of a university's AIV website. Here's the full chart:

Steel Aluminum Weight Saved % Chg
Body structure (lbs.) 596 320 276 -46
Hood, deck & fenders (lbs.) 90 38 52 -58
Front and rear doors (lbs.) 132 79 53 -40
Total body-in-white (lbs.) 818 437 381 -47
Torsional rigidity (ft. lb./deg)* 7.4 11.0 — +49
Total vehicle (lbs.) 3245 2894 381 -11.6

* Unglazed body structure

Ignore the total vehicle weights. These were unpainted, decontented chassis specifically for the study of supplanting major steel components with aluminum. Don't remember how much was missing.
