I have had blower motor problems in the past, but they always had a high fan speed setting left in them when the blower control module crapped out.

Is there any easy way to figure out what is wrong when the motor does not even turn on?
It is really bad weather and pretty cold, so it would be great to have it working again.

Could it still be the blower control module, even though the failure was not characteristic?

The symptoms were: very warm weather for the daytime conditions (above freezing) and fan worked.
Overnight temperatures of minus 10 degrees F, and when tried, fan did not work.

I looked at #7 fuse in the in-dash fuse holder and it is OK.

Car is 93 SHO auto converted to mtx, but with all that crazy door locking stuff still intact from the automatic days.

Thanks

Sounds like there is an issue in the motor of the fan when it gets cold and things contract more. See if you can warm it up and see if it runs.

I once had a Mazda pickup that, when it got really cold, the blower motor would not run. When it was nice out, the fan worked fine, but not when it was cold. I never did figure it out, because I was not up to screwing with it when it was below zero, and when it was over 25 it always worked fine. Finally traded it...

It could be 1. blower motor itself, 2. blower control module, 3. any connector in that circuit. Those kinds of issues are a royal pita to diagnose - best wishes.

It has warmed up since, and I put an in-car heater to it, and the fan still is not working and the fuse still looks OK.
If it is the heater motor itself, how hard is that devil to replace?
I have absolutely no ability in electrical diagnosis, so I will be taking it to a place that has a fairly with-it owner, I am just wondering how hard it will be to remove the heater motor, as I will take a stab at that if it is not insurmountable.
Thanks

The blower motor is a pain to replace. If you can get to the connector, you can see if you have power to it. If there is battery voltage there, the motor is bad.

Is this a case where you remove the heater core hoses and AC lines and drop that monster plastic box onto the floor?
I have looked on the internet and searched this forum, but I still don't know how to do this.

No, not that bad. Just pull the glove box down and remove a dozen small screws to remove a panel that covers the motor. It's a couple hour job on your back.

Ah, the old remove the front seat, and lay down manoeuver. Thanks for the intel. I was thinking I was in for a mission impossible.
I was shocked at how little information there was on it. I could find the 1996 to 2007 information with ease, but I guess our cars are getting old.

The blower motor came back to life by itself.
May have been ice, that eventually melted
Very happy.

That's always the best! You may be able to look through the cowl and see if there is a bunch of ice collected down there. If too much gets in, I could see how it might get in the blower box through the fresh air inlet! I never personally had this problem on daily driven SHOs that didn't get the luxury of a garage, but I could see how it could happen.

My replacement is a 4-Seasons brand, complete with wheel, for a whompin $12.00 on clearance. So they are not exactly an expensive fix. Just the agony of installing it. But, for now, that is all behind me.
