Greetings all. Just bought a SHO recently and have been going through it. I have a problem with the blinkers and hazards which from what I've seen is a cmmon issue, but I wanted to ask about it just in case.

Neither the blinkers nor the hazards flash. not even the indicators on the dash light up. They Don't light up, come on at all, etc. The turning lamps do come on, the wipers work, and the other stuff on the stalk works fine.

I purchased a 34 type blinker/flasher module, but I'm not sure where the flasher module is supposed to go, nor am I sure if it will fix the problem anyway. None of the fuses are blown, so it is likely either the flasher, the stalk or a wiring issue. I was hoping that someone could tell me where the flasher module goes, if there is anything else that could be causing it, or ogger general help on the issue.

My second issue is witht he CD player: It doesn't seem to want to come on at all when i try to insert a disc. i.e. Doesn't light up, doesn't try to pull in the disc. I understand it is common for the players to have issues. Is this one of the common, or fixable issues?

Thanks for any help.

Pop the autolamp panel, the flasher resides behind there.

As far as the CD issue, the JBL system in my 94 DOES NOT auto turn on when inserting a disc.

Thanks

Thanks, i'll check out the flasher. What does your CD player do, and/or is there a way to turn it on manually?

CD Stuff

Oh. Already tried that. The CD player doesn't pull in the disc at all. Any suggestions?

I'll try to see if I can swap out the flasher module in the morning (.I'm hoping that will be the extent of problem.)

For reference, i also have a '94, 3.2 w/ auto Transaxle..

I would pop the cd player out using the Ford removal tools (or a bent coat hanger) and see if it is actually plugged in.

CD removal

I assume you insert something into each of the little holes on the sides of the player to remove it?

Is the CD player normally lit up all the time, or only when a disc is in it?

If your flasher module ends up not being the issue you might consider replacing the multifunction switch. An easy and cheap replacement, they run about $45 at most auto parts stores. After that the only thing you could try is replacing the blinker fluid. In most cases the fluid is fine though, it only needs to be replaced every 100k.

I'm sorry, that last part is a joke. I just couldn't resist.

To Slo-Sho: Thanks a lot. The CD player actually WASN'T connexcted to the power. It works great now (except for a minor problem with the player as I'll detail below) and sounds absolutely fantastic. if you're interested and you want to send me a mailing address I'll post you a nice cigar as a thank you gift.

The aforementioned problem is that when there is no disc inserted, the player constantly keeps thinking there is a disc and switching the stereo off to play (the nonexistant CD), finds nothing, goes back to off, then tries to read a disc again. As long as I keep a CD in the drive it's fine, so i can stop it with the play/Stop button and listen to the radio or a tape, so it's not a big deal.

If anone has had a similar problem (and has a fix for it) please let me know.

Flasher module, still no fix

Hmm. i replaced the flasher and they still don't work. Where is the multifunction switch located (or is it the stalk on the wheel)? The only things that don't work now are the blinkers and hazards. Everything else on the stalk works fine including the turning lamps.

The blinker fluid was replaced about 2 months ago before I bought the car using only all-American synthetic motor trend top tier rated fluid (made by underprivleged teens in Zimbabawe), so that's not a problem to my knowledge. http://www.shoforum.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=325425#

That's probably why the P.O. disconnected it. :D IIRC there are micro switches inside the unit by the loading mechanism that detects when a CD is inserted. They could be stuck or otherwise. I've disassembled a few but that was a long time ago. FYI, the unit was made by Sony.

Try removing the multifunction switch, then disassemble it be removing the 5 screws that hold it together. Once apart, clean the contacts thoroughly with some VHT. There was a lot of corroded contact points as well as guey sticky stuff inside. I scraped off the corroded part with a pair of tweezers. Make sure you don't break any of the three wires that carry the viper control signals. Now it works fine again, including the hazard flasher.

Lock cylinder

Could anyone tell me how to remove the lock cylinder (ignition)? It has to come off before the clamshell around the column can be removed. Thanks.

First, remove the lower plactic cover. Then insert your key and turn to the run position. Then take a look at the underside of the ingnition switch assembly. There is a little hole there. Insert an 1/8" narrow, or so, long object (e.g., centerpunch) into this hole and push. Then pull the ignition assembly out. You may have to "rock and roll" it a little bit. But it should come out relatively easily.

Fixed

Got the MF switch fixed, now everything works great, including the fog lamps (of all things) which i thought was a wiring problem.

Thanks to all of you that helped along the way.

Cheers,
