So I decided to try and customize the stock grille on my 2010 SHO, wanting to get rid of the chrome. Since we don't really have many grille options I thought I'd try and make my own. I don't mind the design of the stock grille, but it is a lot of chrome. I know I could have used plasti dip, but I wanted to experiment with something a little more durable and permanent, so I decided to use black truck bed liner. Not wanting to ruin mine since it is in mint condition, I obtained a grille from a salvage yard for only $40, came off a Taurus SEL. Then I started to take the grille apart, it is actually 3 different pieces that are sandwiched together, was kinda difficult to pry the pieces apart without damaging anything. The very back piece is already a black plastic so all I did was clean it up. The other 2 pieces are the silver/gray painted insert in the middle and then the main chrome part on the very front. These 2 pieces I sanded down pretty well, with a 150 grit sandpaper. Then I primed 3 coats with a self etching primer. Then came the bed liner, I used rustoleum truck bed coating, put on about 6 thin coats. The finish looks pretty good, looks like its a black textured plastic, and not just painted. I'm waiting for it all to dry and cure well before putting it all back together and putting the ford emblem back on. Here are some pics so far, I'll get some more pics when it's back together and on the car.

Here's a link for bigger pics:

Looks AWESOME arred! There are a bunch of our customers that have some slick blackout grilles on their rides. Ask around, personally, I LOVE BAMSHO's and bpd's grilles. They know a ton about they cosmetic touches that are out there for the SHO!

Looks great! I have a white '11 SHO. You may want to consider painting the lower grille to match the upper. I plasti-dipped the upper grille and it came out great. The lower grille was slightly different shade of black and different texture so i plasti-dipped it to match. Looks even better now because they look the same. I eventually did the LED strip bezels to match as well. I thought I had a pic of it all done but i only have pics of the upper grille. I'll have to take one and post it here. I've washed the car several times and even had it through a half dozen car washes since I applied the plasti-dip and it still looks as good as it did the day i applied it!

Grille looks awesome!! This is one of the reasons I bought a 13, the 10-12 look more like a regular Taurus. Great job

looks good. now put up a thread on how you got that damn grill in and out.

I used these instructions that were posted on the ecoboost forums, pretty detailed and has pics:

I'll just add that I didn't find it necessary to remove the wheels, just moving them from side to side to access the clips worked for me, I also did not completely remove the fender liners.

How can I find them? I have an '11 sho and would like all of some of it blacked out. Or, preferably, a black mesh like '13+ or the police interceptor. Would like to see/hear what they've done and how.
