A y-pipe is a good place to start: SHO Source

I would also go for brakes and suspension.

x2. My sho (94 mtx) was a ton funner to drive after I tweaked the suspension. For a street driven sho I would recommend the '96 upgrade with some good pads. After that I would replace the worn out suspension bushings. ASFB are always a good upgrade. Subframe connectors and a good set of springs/shocks will do wonders. I have koni's with intraxs and love it. As far as the clutch, it depends on how tou work the clutch. Slipping the clutch will cause alot of wear, while just putting your foot in it after it is in gear wont cause as much.

start w/ maintenance - 60k work including new plugs/wires, valve cover seals, front main seal, cam seals, water pump, timing belt, crank sensor, etc. etc.

those are required before any 'mods' make any sense.

I would think about which part of the car you want to start with(suspension, engine, transmission, body, etc.) and stick with it untill you do the most out of that.
For example, if you're planning on playing with this car, getting the most out of it, I would get all the parts needed for a job and then do it.
If you going engine route, i would just get 3.2 engine and prepare it on a stand with as many mods as you can afford and then just drop it in the car, this way you wouldn't have to worry about coming back to that part of the car for a very long time(unless you do something wrong).
If you go suspension way, I would look into SLO subframe conversion with rack and possibly brakes.
YOu get the idea.
If I knew how helpfull this forum was in the beggining of my marriage to SHO, i would've saved a lot more money and had one of the fastest and best handling old cars around.

This. Unless it's already done (and proven), it's gonna need it.

Thanks everyone, I'm a little more inclined toward Hp and tourque, I think the 60k and the y-pipe to start out then maybe a tweecer rt or lpm, I'm not that experienced with major jobs (droping in new engines and tranny work) but I think i'm capable of general mods such as these. I prolly wont have a sho for another 5-6 months or so but it's good to have a plan to solidify my purchase. :thankyou:

dont waste the money on the tweecer yet. i run catless on mine and i have lost some lowend power i would say go for a high flow with cats.but its up to you i like the catless personaly.as everyone has stated make sure the services are done first. then go with y pipe, suspention, brakes, then bbb's, p&p intake.worry about the power adders after you get the car to stop and responed well.

don't forget to get the loose nut behind the steering wheel tightened...that's the most important mod of all followed closely by good tires.

For a street-driven car, I would suggest the following:

1) Maintenance- New Suspension Bushings,60k Service, Change fluids, Clutch Replacement

2) Suspension- Upgrade Performance Tires(P215/60-> P225/55),Sub-Frame Connectors,Larger Wheels/Tires(17"or 18"),Aftermarket Struts/Springs, Rear H-Brace, f/r Strut Tower Braces, Sub-Frame Bushings

3)Brakes- Premium Pads, 96' Big/Brake Upgrade, SS Brake Lines

4)Engine Upgrades- Rod Bearing Replacement, Aftermarket Y-Pipe, Ported/Polished Intake, K&N Air Filter, Tuner Chip

Instead of buyng a stock SHO and spending all the labor and money on upgrades, I buy a nice rust free one from an enthusiast that has all the maintenance done, and the upgrades. Unless you are a skiled mechanic, these cars are a PITA to work on, and you will never regain anywhere near what you invest into upgrades when you turn around to sell it. If you have 1300 for upgrades and 2000 for a SHO, you can buy one that has what you want for 3300 and drive it right now.

Or you can buy one with not a lot of mechanical knowledge, buy this chilton's manual, realize that the chilton's has barely any SHO info, then decide to get your hands dirty and ask a lot of questions on this forum. Thats what I did. You will be a mechanic in no time. :thumb:
