I can't recall the suggestion I received in the past. If you have had yours worked on recently (and was happy with outcome) I would love to know who you used.

Dumb Question time: after removing unit, you can still operate the SHO normally, yes? In this day and age of cars (even with my 11 year old steed) I am not certain of anything.

TIA.

Here is a thread regarding issues. https://shoforum.com/threads/2018-ford-taurus-sony-system-problems.146730/

I used autocircuitsolutions.com, and was very happy with their service. You haven't mentioned your symptoms, nor your specific system, but mine lost all sirius/am/fm/bluetooth sound output. They apparently re-solder some common failure points. It is a quick turn-around, or at least it was when mine was in.

Car was still operable and had no issues with the ACM removed. Other than being really quiet, heh heh. Happy to provide more discussion if needed.

2015 with Sony system. Left channel is completely out. When you run the tone test you hear nothing. Steering wheel audio controls work maybe 50% of the time.

Now that I think about it ... once the ACM is removed, is there a way to connect something to the left channel speakers to verify the wiring is intact?

If this gets resolved, it will be the last little thing on my car that is not perfect. I had the washer pump replaced yesterday. New battery and BMS reset a few weeks ago.

I am still researching an upgrade to Sync 3, but I don't think it is worth it for me. I have my phone connected via BT to stream music, and for now, that will suffice. The "turnkey" solutions are a bit too pricey for me. But if I can figure out a way to do it within a budget, I may add it to my task list.

Is there any other "while I'm at it ..." things I should be thinking about with regard to the ACM?

I think we are talking about the APIM. You might try here: https://foursynctech.com/ to see if they have any old, working units if you don't want to upgrade to SYNC3. I'd recommend having the panel refurbished while you have everything apart.

@Majestic you are right - I did a bit of research earlier today and I learned this.

I'm old school. I wish car sound systems were not so integrated with other elements of the car.

What I'd really like to know is if I were to upgrade my 2015 SHO's screen to the newer version - is here a higher resolution camera to match the newer screen?

Is there a third-party solution to wanting "360 degree" view with our cars?

The camera resolution is lower than the screen resolution regardless of which camera you buy. I replaced my defective stock camera a few years ago with a higher resolution unit. It's better, but you are still looking at an 8 inch screen. I'm still debating if I want to upgrade to Sync3 when I replace the control panel.

I received the recall letter in regard to the rear camera. If they ever come through with a replacement, I wonder what its resolution will be? Or do I go ahead and buy a full HD camera now? (assuming I upgrade to the 1334x883 Sync 4 display).

Well, looks like an upgrade to an HD camera is not that much. Found an outlet selling a Chinesium unit for $33.00, so I will take a chance on it.

OK, I now have determined the only issue is the A pillar and door speakers on the driver side. I read elsewhere that the pillar speaker is hard wired to the door speaker.

Could this still be an APIM issue?

I have researched to death the idea of upgrading to Sync 3. I'll get a new APIM as part of the process. I may go ahead and do this and see if it fixes my audio issue.

Man, the things I learn.

Apparently, the OEM speakers with the Sony system are 2 ohm! So if you install 4 ohm speaker replacements, you lose volume level at same power input.

What a rabbit hole this has become.
