Got a tranny flush, and the shifting was better than its ever been especially shifting at higher speeds. However, one day after a transmission plurge (flush), my tranny was getting stuck in 4th gear. For whatever reason, I decided to reset the idle. The shifting came back and wasn't getting stuck anymore. I even drove it on a road trip totalling 4 hours and had no problems.

Well, a week later the shifting get extremely bad. Now, the SHO only has 1st gear, and won't shifting into 2nd. When it does shift out of 1st, it is on any gear....the car won't accelerate at all; unless I stop and then accelerate while the car is in 1st gear. *I also noticed that the shifting isn't easily locking into place...I have to wiggle it to make it stick. O.K. so again for whatever reason, I decide to reset the idle again. The shifting again seems just fine and better than ever since I had it at 76k miles (158K).

I don't get this.....when a tranny gives in, there aren't any gears at all right? I really think that the tranny is still some good. It seems that is something electrical. I replaced the side motor mount and the MLP sensor on the tranny. However, the engine still rocks when you goose the acceleration at idle? Also, I've noticed this smooth whistle-like noise coming up through the snakes when you give it gas whether idling or accelerating....I can here it from inside the car and looking under the hood.

I've read many previous post through the search regarding any type of transmission problems, but I still need some help on this guys. My SHO is my daily driver. I've read to check: the tps, right spec ATX fluids, motor mounts, speed sensor, tranny mount, clean out the sensor right below the intake hose, and also that the SHO when given a tranny flush might actually do more harm than good. Aamco did the flush and they told me to take care of the CHECK ENGINE light, before they can check out the tranny, free of charge.

Please, someone tell me what your opinion of what I tried to decribe about this tranny. I guess the obvious thing to say is that it is time for tranny rebuild, but I want (hopefully) some definitive suggestions as to how this tranny and shifting problems occurred right after a tranny flush? Why is resetting the idle, then driving for about 10 minutes, then the shifting is great again?

Help........I don't have $2500 and don't want to visit a dealership for another car.

Man, with all the post that I've been reading regarding 93ATX problems, I wish I'd done this search before I went to Aamco. There have been way too many 93ATX'ers that have experienced tranny shifting woes after a tranny flush. To bad this problem wasn't a lifelong sticky.......or maybe I missed it................now it's decision time.....new car or rebuild tranny? This is becoming a tougher question, literally by the second!!!! My trans was just fine til the flush.......this just ain't right!..........I feel like I just got knocked out by Glass Joe as opposed to Mike Tyson!

FYI $2500 is way too much for a tranny rebuild. Good luck finding the problem.

i agree, we need a sticky for proper ATX maintenance highlighting the potential problems of having the tranny power flushed, places to avoid getting the tranny service, and how to get the correct service when it is needed..DIY tips would also be a great idea, as well as what electrical connections you can inspect or repair that may cure transmission problems.

Perhaps dropping the tranny pan yourself and putting in some new fluid would help  i dunno though, sounds like the flush did more harm than good and probably lodged some crud in places in your tranny that dont need to be crudded up..

best of luck with it though. As the miles climb on my my 95 auto that dreaded fear of the tranny turning into a giant paperweight is ever present, and growing :frown:

yeah... when my tranny went the diff pin blew out the casing all over the tunnel I was going through... it made one heluva BANG clankle tink tinkle.... yeah, it was amazing. The tranny stopped shifting right after that; it'd been slipping in and out for a couple of days before then. it was great. except for $2700 for the new tranny. That part sucked. Good luck, bro; you're gonna need it.

You know I did hear this one big clunk noise that seemed to come from right under the gas pedal area. It was loud and scared me. Nothing seemed to mess with the tranny though as I kept riding, and even road tripped for a total of 4 hours after that loud clunk. I just assumed I ran over some piece of hard rubber on the highway and this piece of rubber clanked up and hit the bottom of the car. I got a guy who works at a tranny shop that's going to take a look at it, scan for any electrical stuff, and possibly rebuild it.....but who knows how long I'll go before I can rebuild it..........

Well, I'm off to Enterprise.............for now............ :thumb:
