The following applies to each of the two accessory belts.

Loosen the 14mm nut at the center of the tensioner pulley about 1/2 turn. Using a 5mm Allen socket with many extensions or the dedicated 18" long, T-handled Allen wrench, turn the Allen headed adjusting screw on the top of the tensioner assembly CW to tighten and CCW to loosen the belt. The Allen screw on the rear belt is a real challenge to access without the long tool. Torque the 14mm nut to 25-37 lb-ft.

OK, so now I know how to get them on and off. The next thing I need to know is how tight they should be when I put them back on. How do you tell, without the expensive belt tensioner tool they show in the factory manual, how tight they should be?

I had read that the firm pressure from one finger should deflect the longest span of the belt approximately 1/4". Or, tight enough so that the A/C compressor clutch engaging doesn't cause a squeak. The PS/WP belt does not have nearly as much work to do and does not have to be too tight.

In the "for what it's worth" category, water pumps last a lot longer if the belt is less than factory specs tight. I even had a slight w/p leak stop by lessening the belt tension.

Good luck joevoirol, I'm anxious for the UDP's! thumbs_u
I just recieved my vavle shim/tool kit and my ford intake gasket set and my ford wires and my Energy suspension strut rod for all four corners and my front sway bar bushings today! WHEW!!! eek!
That was a breathful. I'll be tackling that soon! Plus I'm moving into my new place next weekend and I'm going to Orlando/COCO Beach Florida for spring break the week after that! I'm damn busy! OOPS...sorry for my rant...

Scott, the alternator belt tensioner pulley is a 17mm nut.

I once overtightened a new w/p on an old supra. It lasted a day or two before the pulley shaft snapped from metal fatigue. The fan is mounted on that same shaft and it took out a rad rib or two. Since then, I run'em loose and tighten only if they squeal. I just did my 60k and have one that sings when the ac comp. kicks on. I will give it another turn or two on the tensioner.
